Hi-tech struggles to cope with Katrina disaster (http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=25930)

In better news, Reuters is reporting wireless carriers are starting to restore cellular service across the region, with Verizon Wireless working on getting phone service back to parts of New Orleans and surrounding areas. Verizon already has Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport up and running, a good beachhead. Verizon also has restored service to other parts of Louisiana and Mississippi. T-Mobile USA claims it has re-established service in many parts of New Orleans, including the Superdome, the convention center, and Armstrong Airport. From most press reports, it appears the only people that have cell phones and a way to charge them are either press people or military personnel.

Meer, I think that cell phones are a high priority. It is not the highest of course, but it is pretty high. Good communication is essential in any type of operation and believe me, the military has come to depend on celluar communication. Sure we still use the military radio, but that is not always fesiable.
