Would mixing something like those purple micro-balloons into an oil based primer/paint make a reasonable putty? What about red lead powder?

PS. Don't worry, its for my fence ;) I just don't want to use a commercial gap filler goop-in-a-tube.

I have thought about that and asked International Paints. I suggested their filler and Precote. Their reply was no.
But seeing that it is on a fence, why not give it a go and report the results.

Jim, in hindsight, I think the paint would dry and crack away from the join. I think a flexible substance would be better. Anyway, it might be years until I had something to report smile.gif
I just have this little can of red lead powder downstairs that my Grandad left behind, which I am just itching to fool with ;) I have heard so much about it on the forum, I'm getting too curious.
Hey where in buggeration is Sheldon mate? I live in Ipswich, just outside of Brissie?

This is great opportunity. We could all send you our requests for you to paint individual fence boards with our proposed coatings. (paint, epoxy, varnish, CPES, and so forth and so on) And you could post photos and eyewitness accounts here for the next three years and let us know which is working the best. Any chance, you'd be interested in testing diffeernt species of woods too? ;)

S**t yeah, what a great idea! Lets see, I will need 150 board feet of Oak, and about 300 of Ccedar. Does epoxy come in a 44 gallon drum? I better use copper nails too huh.
Ok, we'll just organise all the forumites to "donate" the stuff to me and I'll see what I can do.
Better get me a pretty young thing to help in keeping the records too ;) Oh, and perhaps a small monthly stipend to cover expenses ;)
I know its a big task, but it would be an honour to provide this scientific research to the forum. :D
It feels good to give, don't it ;) :D
