Heres a neat truck that I wouldn't mind owning.

This is the UNIMOG and may be the ultimate 4x4 truck. This is a Daimler Chryslerproduct. As you can see in the photo it has a 3-way dump. What you can't see is the front and rear 3-point hitches & PTO's. It also has inter-locking differentals for when you get a couple of wheels off of the ground.

This is a truck/tractor that seems to have many uses. You could put a snow plow on it or a snow thrower or even a sprayer. Works on the farm on the road and where there is no roads. The new version is capable of top speeds over 70 mph and low speeds of, well lets just say you can't see it moving. It has as an available option of Drive, Low and Low Low. The top speed in Low Low in 8 th gear is 3 mph.

This thing also has some weird transmission. It is a semi-automatic transmission with 8 forward and 6 reverses. When you want to shift gears you push the clutch and tap the selector paddle.

Put UNIMOG in Google and you'll get all kinds of hits.

A friend of mine has a former Belgian Army UniMog. He had it imported for $4600.00. It's in outstanding condition, and is unstoppable off road. I hate to say it, but it's better off road than my Wrangler.

The older version once won the truck rating in the Paris - Dakar. A farmer and his son, their farm UNIMOG and very little money spent on preperation.

They are absolutely amazing machines. Some people even use them to plough a field.

Where did the name 'Unimog' come from? It sounds like something out of a Heinlein novel.

Interesting looking vehicle. I'll bet it's a rough ride on a washboard road, though maybe not with those tires.

You can even get it in a road/railroad track configuration.

I've liked that Mercedes for years but my new favorite 4 x 4 is the Volvo:

The ONLY time my VW bus got stuck, was on 6 inches of ice, in Vermont. A Unimog gave me a ride home.... And helped pull me out of the ditch the next morning. He was the only vehicle on the road...literally...
