The mahogany planking down low on either side of my diesel is showing signs of deterioration on the surfaces facing the engine. You can rub off a sixteenth of an inch or so with bare fingers, and the material is like sawdust. The wood underneath is solid. It does not seem to affect the white oak frames. I also see a little of this adjacent to the stuffing box. My surveyor called it heat blush but did not recommend any immediate action. Being new at caring for a wooden sailboat, this still concerns me. Has anyone had any experience with this?
