The Penguin (a John Welsford design) is drawn for a small outboard housed in a motor well. Not yet having purchased a motor, I want to build the transom so that I would have the option of placing the outboard on a bracket off the back of the transom in case the motor that I eventually do acquire doesn't fit into the space provided. The transom is designed to be constructed from 9mm ply, with 20mm hardwood "frame" and cross members. I'm wondering how much more reinforcement would be necessary to build into the transom to take a bracket that would hold a 5 to 8 h.p. outboard.
