DAP's Weldwood hasn't been sent to the distributors for some time now. According to a DAP's company rep, it won't be available for a couple more months due to a packaging supplier. I know Borden makes it but haven't seen it for retail. Anyone with a source?

If all else fails, you can order resorcinol from
Custom-Pak (http://www.custompak.com./)

Try McMaster Carr, they usually have it, also Hamilton Marine.

Ken,
What is the shelf life of resorcinol? This might be the beginning of the end. As California goes, so goes the market.
Check Jamestown Distrubutors and Aircraft Spruce also.

Wayne I used some that was more than 5 years old with no problems and that was previously opened cans. The resin gradually turns a darker purple in cans that have been opened but it still glues like it is supposed to.
Edited to add that I'm not taking any chances I just ordered 10 more can sets. :D There is nothing like product demand to to keep it available. ;)

Ken I find your post on using 5 year old opened cans of resorcinol with no problems, interesting and informative.
So what does the manufacturer says the shelf life of resorcinol is?
I was under the understanding that it is only one year.

Good on you, Ken!
Do you suppose they say that to get you to buy more often? They wouldn't do that. Would they? :D

Try any commerical glue timber operations around.
The guy's making finger jointed timber and beams etc. Many of them her in NZ use a resorcinal type glue. Also check out some of the new "Water Proof" PVA's that are comming out. I would be looking at the testing approvals closely mind you for anything other than a dinghy.

Not a thing on the can lables about shelf life. I might as well mention that I've succesfully used it at 60 degrees and even lower (10 degrees below the recommended minimum) for non critical joints and the only affect I've found is that it takes longer to cure about 2 full days.
The information I got from the guy selling his surplus Aerodux 500 said the shelf life was about a year, maybe longer if the container had not been opened...at least thats what they told him in the UK when he bought it. I have the literature around her somewhere, I'll try to find it. I wanted to buy a gallon and do some testing but didn't like the idea of the short shelf life and that a thickener had to be added for filling gaps.

As the former Dap Industrial Rep for the Pacfic NW I still have ties to them. I sent an email to one of my contacts and will let you know what I discover. Sure do miss the ability to order samples of Weldwood and Resorcinol!

Jamestown was the one who told me they didn't have any Resorcinol since the end of April. Also checked a Home Depot with no luck. I'm off for the long July 4th weekend; heading to Annapolis, Md. and will check there on some sources. Will check with the other leads that were given by you guys if I don't have any luck today.
