I'm sure its simple, but so am I. How do you add a picture to your post here? I have a question, and a picture will save pages.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Stan ,I'm new to this too. You can see my misadventures in a thread further below ,(see Reisinger30 sailboat or barnfire) .I tried posting several times with no luck but some of the mates out there set me up and straight.I just got my first picture posted on my own(see Newport 12 meters) .The first thing I did was go to this website from sony, http://www.imagestation.com/ Then upload or download(I'm Lysdexic)your pic then cut that into your post or reply section and add the before and after the image info .erasing the thumb.jpg made the picture large enough. Like they told me ,hang in there. best of luck Dan L. [img]smile.gif

Most people recommend Imagestation but as I've said before if you have AOL its picturehosting is simple and reliable. Go to FTP, upload your picture, then view it on the web at http://members.aol.com/yourlogin/nameofpicture.jpg
One advantage of this is that you can easily memorize the url of the photo. If you use Imagestation you have to cut and paste because the URL is three blocks long, and doesn't come up half the time anyway.
Then click on Image below this box and type in the URL. Nothing to it.
If you must use Imagestation use Control-N to start a second web page on which you can load Imagestation. Rightclick on the URL of the image and then use ALT-TAB to move it over here.

Expanding on what Rocky said, most Internet Service Providers give you some free web space for your own website. In most cases this space can be used for picture hosting without even creating a website. However, I will admit that doing this requires some knowledge of websites and how to work with them in terms of uploading files and suchlike. Also, many small ISP's (and Saltspring.com sounds VERY much like a small ISP) do not necessarily include free web space.

AHA!!... I've been wondering about that...
I've seen all of the references to 'imagestation' on this forum since I've been here, and I've thought "surely you can just point the picture source to any image URL on the public internet??" but I've never got around to looking into it properly.
So I think I'll post a picture of us on our wee boatie just to see if it works OK...
http://pages.eidosnet.co.uk/~r.maccallum/pictures/pinocchio.jpg
Yep, that seems to work fine..I wonder if it works if you just use normal html image tags....?
<img src = "http://pages.eidosnet.co.uk/~r.maccallum/pictures/pinocchio.jpg" alt="Pinocchio at Eilann Mhor">
Hmm, no it doesn't seem to like that...I wonder why the browser doesn't just render it anyway? must be inside another tag or something...
Anyway, I digress....
To add something useful to this discussion, if you're completely un-familiar with the workings of HTML, FTP, personal webspace etc. then you're probably better to use the hosting services like others above have suggested. The only problem being the cumbersome URL's mentioned. Simply put these tags in the text of your message where you want the pic to be, and paste the URL of youre picture between them.
It seems that the troubles most people have is with the passwords etc. on the hosting services, that and finding out what the URL of the picture is in the first place.
If however you decide to go with hosting them on your own web space, (like I've done above) there are (in the UK anyway) plenty of ISP's you can still sign up for for a free account, (they make their money from the call charges - maybe you don't get them in the States (sorry Canada?)) - so it is quite easy to get some web space even if your own ISP doesn't provide it (which I personally think is unlikely - disk space is cheap these days!)
Sorry if this is a bit waffling, good luck,
Ruaridh.

The URL you posted is that of the web page containing your picture. If you go to that page, and right click on the image, select properties, and then highlight and copy the URL of the pic itself, then paste it in between the image tags, voila.

Stan I cant get it either :(
http://www.imagestation.com
Go there, open an account (free)
Decide whether you want to bring the pics into an album, or just into your storage bin.
Follow ImageStation's instructions for uploading the pics.
After the pics are uploaded, click on one of the thumbnails to pop-up the full sized pic.
Right click on the full sized pic, and select "properties"
In the middle of the properties box is the pic's URL.
MAKE SURE THE URL DOESN'T END WITH ".orig.jpg"
If it does, don't highlight that part.
Highlight the URL with your mouse (left key-drag)
On your keyboard, hit CTRL-C
Start a post on the WB forum.
Under the text entry screen, are 2 columns of buttons.
Click the "Image" button.
A little image box comes up with http:// already highlighted.
DON'T SELECT THE IMAGE BOX WITH YOUR CURSOR, OR YOU'LL END UP WITH 2 HTTP://'s
On your keyboard, hit CTRL-V..then press enter.
Preview the pic with the "Preview" button.
Post it!

NG59...you used parens instead of brackets for the image tags, and you didn't copy the entire URL. The properties box only displays 2 lines of URL, so you have to continue the left-button-drag highlighting down to the end of the URL...which should be .jpg
http://www.majestic-mattress.com/img/flag-cdn.gif
NG59...this one might be a better size for your signature. It can be found here (http://www.majestic-mattress.com/img/flag-cdn.gif) .

Well, when I previewed, I got the little square icon with the x in it. I assume that when this is posted that will be the link to the pic?

Stan...very close...the URL must end with a file extension like .jpg or .gif

I love that little tug shot. I can't show my wife as she will make me change plans and build that next.
Any more information on that little tug???? That is a sweet boat!

Jake, Its a "Monterey troller". Originally from California...Slightly different than the classic clipper bow Montereys. They were derived from the Italian falucca's that the Italian immigrants to San Francisco built for the local fishery.
Great boat. Leaves almost no wake.
