According to the Field Artillery Journal there may be getting ready to be a change in the Guard and the structure of artillery. I haven't seen the article, but our captain briefed us on it a little.

From what I gather it has been decided or is in the the process of deciding that there will be less artillery units in the guard and that there are too many MLRS units.

This is not good for us in the 1/1/81st FABN, being as we are a MLRS unit. With the reacent deployment of other TN guard units, our unit has been bleed of strength to fill empty spots in these units. Out of an assigned 96 we have right around 50 with us at present. That puts our strength below the magic 80% which makes us un-deployable and in danger of losing the guns and becoming something else or maybe even disappering all together. :(

I'm too old and sit in my ways to learn how to repair mess kits and would just like to continue to shoot rockets. Of course I know you guys can't do anything, it is up to us here to reqruit young guys and write our congressman.

Is the reduction just MLRS units or other artillery? Is this related to 'transformation'?

From what I understand the "possible" reduction is in the artillary field in general. MLRS was specificlly mentioned. All this would have to go through the National Guard Bureau.
