That little yeller skiff seems to be a distinctly Tassie type, with its little bow transom starting at the waterline/keel intersect,

I have a pikkie of a newly built one displayed at a Wooden Boat Festival five or so years ago. It was finished bright and looked like it was built from celery top pine.

I suspect the bow transom saved time when building and had little effect on performance.

Okay since the 2 headed one is refusin to comment hisownself I shall continue the translation... yous fellas would have too many dramas unastandin the blighter with his 2 heads an moufs an all so heres the extra info hes sent along via email

wee yellow skiff is a piners puntSo the little yellow skiff is a "piners punt" used in the quest for the majikal King Billy Pine.. wich is pretty much unattainable nowadays apparently

The yatch is...

the yacht is 27, king billy pine Im not sure myself weather he means the yacht is 27ft or 27 years old but its made of the elusive KBP

There was a whole heep of other Tasweejian in the email that I will prolly spend the next month tryin to decipher... weird peoples these Tasweejians ;) specially the 2 headed ones man talk about tryin to unnastand a wombat in a frenzy! thats easy compared to these blokes :D

mike me old mate, the bow had a lot to do with rowing and dragging these piners punts up many kilometers of real rivers and rapids.the furthest they ever made was well above the jane river junction but to be sure i would have to check, old soldier and doyle morrison are reputed to have made it up to yhe lyell highway and a punt is said to be still hidden in a cave up that way, excuse me but for all you fellows in the americas ,climate here is like 300 inches at 10 mile away so thats a few inches i suppose. i should say annual rain, but speaking taswegian i forget sometimes.at any rate they did this for huon pine and read your history you will figure it out.but it was a feat but i guess the fellows in northern states/canada etc would of done a mighty fine job too.

Bob? what about the barge eh? pretty slick or what mate? comeone let the poor 2 headed fella have the benifit of yer wisdom!!

Strewth for a mob of normally gregarious buggars yer bein rightly silent just now... ****e we gives yer pics out the wazooee an yer clam up tighter than... ah whatever!! :D

no mate it dont go windward.you wanna know the tips to towing a big tart behind ya????????well ill tell ya but only in pimple language if you all think you can ha ndle it.but then again its much the same as tryng to take the horny big momma home without trying to be caught by ya mumndad or any of ya mates, but serious its all about where the rudder is,if your tow point is in front your right,if you tow behind the rudder like i did you soon get the whole town laughing at you ,you want a real long tow rope too and look at heavy end versus light end etc etc,but its good stuff at any rate

mike old fella one of the best things about a punt is when you hear it kissing the water it is a good sound, they only kiss on light ripples

Howdy Fellas!! All this talk of King Billy and Celery has me quite excited. And I'm quite excitable after a few James Boag Premiums. So please excuse my bluntness.
What do you guys know of Celery and King William pine? and can I get this stuff green, from the mill, for $650 a cube, like Spotted Gum and Grey Ironbark.
Is this stuff stable like Huon pine, durable and oily.
I'm very interested, keep me posted.

Sorry for the confusion.
I'm in Australia and we deal in Aussie Dollars ($AUD) and the cubic metre (m3).
How is Whales this time of year, and how much Huon you guys got over there?

Huon - I'd need to drive to Yorkshire for.

Whales is fine - it's only rained half of today (figure correct at noon).

Wales must be a green place indeed.

I remember a film from my youth about a small mining town, "How green was my valley"?

Methinks the film was, perhaps, not indicative of the scenery - it was black and white.

Looks like a charming place, hope to visit sometime.
