Hello. I'm restoring an Owens Granada 37' motorboat here on the Sacramento River. We have all new windows and new window guides to bed onto the wooden cabin frame. Is there is a resource out there that describes how to do this correctly? What to use as a bedding compound? What to do? What not to do? etc. Your help is greatly appreciated.

I'd consider using standard silicone construction caulking. There should be sufficient "wiggle room" so that the movement of the wood will not bind up the frames and windows. Silicone is good for this because it is very flexible. It is not good if eposed to UV sunlight, but as the frames should cover it, it is suitable. Do NOT use 3M 5200 as it is impossible to remove and, if you ever had to, you'd likely break a window or frame.

The company that made my windows recommends Butyl Rubber calk.

STEP 4: Wipe window flange with dry cloth to remove dust, then install bedding compound.
For bedding compound use:
1) Butyl rubber tape
2) Double stick closed cell
foam tape
3) 100% silicone rubber
sealant
(Do NOT use an adhesive)

Butyl is the stuff like chewing gum that never hardens or dries out.It comes on a roll, from any window place.
I like it.
