McGreevy put his unqualified Israeli boyfriend in charge of homeland security in New Jersey. I'm hearing lots of NJ residents who are livid that this is not getting more attention than the Governor's sex-capades. They feel that McGreevy put them in danger to cover his trysts and pay off the boyfriend to keep quiet.

This is the real story - the homosexual thing is a red herring. This day and age, that's just not news. Appointing an unqualified lover to a critical security post is.

We thought he was republican, until the press left out his party affiliation and that he had put his boyfriend in such a critical job with no background check and no credentials. smile.gif

You have to pay as much attention to the facts the press leaves out as to they ones they include when it involves a democrat official.

This employment of an unqualified individual is often called "Ghost Employment," and is subject to criminal sanctions in most states.

If New Jersey has such a statute, the Governor should be prosecuted under it.

If found guilty, he should be sentenced to do time in the graybar motel. That should give him opportunities for some further trysts...

Alan, the press didn't mention that little fact. They just shouted that he is gay. Maybe they should dig a little deeper for the real offense.

Just remember, the last Governor to resign before McGreevy was Governor Rowland, the Republican Govenor of Connecticut who stepped down less than 2 months ago due to a large and ongoing corruption scandal.

Unfortunately there are fools and crooks (as well as good people) in both parties.

Karen,,no one is hiding the basis for his leaving, just because he's trying to spin it as coming out as a consequence of infidelity doesn't make it so. Just like GW saying occupation of Iraq is for WMD,potential WMD, and "Saddams a bad guy" doesn't mean they're the most significant reasons.

His closeted life came out because he was being blackmailed by his ex-lover. This isn't a dem/repub issue. As you've identified there are ethical transgressions here that are more important.

Unfortunately there are fools and crooks (as well as good people) in both parties. And that is Karen's point. This scandal is being portrayed in the media as something far less serious than it is. Like when some still say that President Clinton was impeached for making whoopee with an intern. That's not true, and neither is it true that the Governor of New Jersey has resigned because he's been outed. Yet that is the focus of the news coverage.
