Way to go, Ed! This is where the fun really starts.

btw, and not to hijack this thread, but I now have a final sternpost hole in the right place. It's the small triumphs that mean the most.

5200 in two of the remaining keel bolts was holding up the forward end of the ballast. Who'd have thunk it. Nothing like cutting thru the bolt that's under that sort of strain...

The whole cabootle (sp?) is now sitting on rollers on some hefty PT 2x stock. Still have the aft two bolts to cut thru, then maybe we can move it! No fancy railway car like Dave's however.

Mike's welds held up fine. We actually did all the lifting on the forward and aft cross pieces, so the welds were actually in tension. We kept thinking maybe we ought to stop and block, and switch to jacking on the fore and aft members of the cradle, but we didn't.

Whew... Even got both pairs of jacks back so only got hit with one day's rental.

Good for you, Rich!

Oh ya, when one places supports between the house and bridge deck to the ridge pole, it's a good idea to take those supports out before jacking the boat up. Got them out before any harm was done. Then, of course, there was the stairway, which was, of course, secured to the boat. My buddy, The Lurker, who was helping me in this foolishness, along with his able son, Nathan, noted the stairs were coming off the ground. A little knife play solved that issue. ;) Thunk.

Good night.

Congrats Ed... one of those efforts that speak of preparation I'm sure. Reminds of us why we prepare too :D

OK, you want some pictures:

"The Lurker" shoving her up. Note, by the jacks, we were well along at this point.

Running the Sawzall thru the keel bolts. It still amazes me that a bit of 5200 between the bolts and the ballast was sufficient to hold the ballast up when we dropped the jacks... We've all three still got the shakes from the sawing.

The ballast is down, separation complete, and we're taking a break. You'll get to see a status-check later, if it ever stops raining.

Duff Nortons, Dave?Duff Norton, old maker of jacks, bottle, screw and those boxcar type that Ed is using.
Sort of a generic name for large heavy duty jacks in my time.

I was trying to figure out a connection with Duff beer, Homer Simpson's choice.

LOL, I thought Dave was asking if I'd buried my old Norton under there. ;)

John - great to read your words. Best to Kate and Lulu. :)

Still one more bolt to cut (did one of them yesterday).
