    Ad-Aware replacement!

SpybotSD does what Ad-aware does and more. It includes an automatic blocker that keeps the stuff out in the first place. It's also free, just like the personal version of Ad-Aware.

So far, it's found heaps of stuff Ad-Aware has never noticed.

It also helps manage startup applications, "shreds" files so they can't be recovered (YMMV depending on how it's done).

Spybot-S&D, the best (according to PC World, PC Mag, ...) privacy software available!

So how do you put it on automatic? I know, I could read about it, but in short. I've got it already and never noticed the auto feature.

Kazaa is particularly notorious for installing adware and spyware otherwise unannounced.

The automatic feature I found prevents stuff being downloaded by IE. It does not autorun Spybot.

Another prog worth checking out is http://www.aida32.hu/aida32.php - it's a system info sort of thing.

And, if you want a good motherboard monitor:
Spread the loveMotherboard Monitor (MBM) is a tool that will display information from the sensor chip on your motherboard in your Windows system tray. MBM supports a wide range of Chipsets & Sensor Chip combinations. MBM is compatible with Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000, XP and .NET. It took a little time but it finally […]

In my version you select "immunize" from the menu on the left side of the window and this will give you various options for blocking bad pages or asking you if you want to download bad stuff. I'm using version 1.2.

From what I've heard both Spybot and Ad-Aware will catch things that the other will not so the best practice is to run both. That said, so far I'm just running Spybot.

I have just tried to install it and after downloading and running the install program I get a message :the core KERNEL32dll. could not be found.
Does anybody know how to remedy this?

KERNEL32.DLL is Windows (NT, 2000, XP) for all intents and purposes. Your computer would not be running if it wasn't there somewhere. What exactly is giving you the error?

I've been running Spybot for sometime now and swear by it. It's amazing the stuff it cleans out after running Adaware.

I also follow it up with a healthy dose of CWshredder.

I got an error message saying the path couldnt be found. This error has occured before when downloading. I went through the process again , still got the message but spybot installed so I guess I wont worry about it. (until next time)

                      Thanks.

Stil; Are you installing from the web or downloading and then installing. If you're installing directly over the web, bad Stiletto, BAD - it's a good way to pick up some narsty viruses.
