from Norm:

Or, put another way:

Instructions for posting pictures

Photo to be posted must be on the web and in a site that allows cross posting. Many Forum users use www.imagestation.com (http://www.imagestation.com) . This is a free site which seems to have unlimited storage, large picture size, and unlimited albums.

Upload your pictures to ImageStation and create your albums or leave the pics in the in box as you wish.
Pictures in ImageStation are displayed in three sizes: thumbnail, display and original. Left click on the thumbnail brings up the display photo, about 640 bits X 400 or so. A left click on the display photo brings up the photo in the original size you uploaded. Forget this one, except in rare cases which I cannot explain it cannot be cross linked. So....

Left click on the thumbnail to show the display version.

Right click on this picture.

Left click "Properties".

Highlight the Address [URL] and copy it (Ctrl/C).

Now go to The Forum and prepare your new message.
Write what you want as a preamble to your picture, then:

Below the message area is a button, "IMAGE". Left click it.

Paste the URL you copied above into the block displayed.
Note that the block contains http already highlighted. Just paste without doing any thing else so you don't get http twice.

Add what ever additional text you wish to add after the URL of the picture is displayed.

Click on the "Preview Post" button to confirm that what you want us to see will appear, then close the window.

Click the "Add Reply" button and standby for responses.
When i posted your lifeboat picture a couple of evennings ago I noticed that you had two sets of "http:" in your image url, be sure you have only one and you should have no problems.

First off the picture must be somewhere on the web. Imagestation and other storage places like that are just fine, as is your own web page, if you have one.

The easiest way is to go to the picture, do a right click, click properties, highlight and copy the URL address, then go to the message board and open a post.... click on image code below the message window. this will bring up another window. Paste the copied url address in this window (make sure you clear the default text in this window first). click OK and well, Bob's your uncle. ;)

Anybody know how to do it if you have a Mac? I was able to load pics to imagestation, but then no way to get URL of image to post onto here. Any other websites mor Mac friendly than Imagestation? Would love to be able to post pics of my beautiful boat...

Imagestation won't let you do it anymore, unless you upgrade to their premium membership. You'll need to find another hosting site. I don't know any off the top of my head........

Sounds like we need to develop a FAQ or stock thread on this, as it comes up for *every* new member of this forum.

Works the same on a Mac (superior machines that they are) as a PC -- post image on web, get URL, post it in the thread.

I find that picturetrail.com works fine, but you can see what others are using here by selecting the photos, then doing a right-click or whatever to get "Copy Image Location" (Firefox browser) or "Copy Image to new window" (I.E.).

Some of us use our own websites for some images (as I do), but I have to use picturetrail.com at work as I can't ftp images to my personal site from there.

Once you have the URL, you can do various methods to get it to display in the thread rather than just be a link. The easy way is to use the "IMAGE" button in the "Instant UBB Code" section of the "Post a Reply" window.

The geeky way is to just add the following exact code to the fore and aft end of the picture URL: leftcarrot img src=" URLHERE "> (I have to say "leftcarrot" cause if I use the actual "<" character the text becomes code). The smart website changes this a bit and you've got a posted image.

I have had good luck with photobucket.com. Very user friendly. Even I as a Mac user got photos uplaoaded and working on a post the first time.

I'm a Mac user as well. No problem with Photo Bucket. If anything, it is TOO easy. If you don't log out it will leave you logged in . . . for days.

BTW, if you are a Mac user and it really is important for you to use Win-Tel sites you can always get a copy of Virtual PC - It will allow you to run Windows on your Mac. Works good enough for posting. (Although, it is kinda scary going over to the "dark side.")

Anyone know where one can post .pdf files? Makes no difference - Mac or Win/Tel.

A few options for pdf files:

1. Your own webspace. If you have an ISP email account, you probably have webspace with your account. Call the ISP and get the ftp info for the MAC uploads (use Fetch if you can), and post 'em there.
Here's a link to a pdf on my webspace -

Emp's_BD_Feast (http://luckhardt.com/EmpBirthday_2005.pdf)

2. Pay for public file storage. Some services let you post files for free during a trial period, after that it's $25/year or whatever. Here's one:
