So I'm talking with a real estate friend/college, and he asks me how the restoration with Dove is going. He happens to also be a sailor. I tell him how I'm kinda looking as to whether I need to replace a plank or learn how to caulk properly. He say's why dont ya just call my friend Nat and ask him maybe he can give you a hand. Nat??? Yea Nat Benjamin  The Nat Benjamin !!!! . So he gives me his personal Cell phone number and says just tell him Matty says hi.
So I just got off the phone with him as soon as I mentioned who told me to call, he was OHHH YEA Laugh OH he is a character isn't he HI HI HI what can I do for you, and we were off talking like old friends, damn nice guy. Anyway I received some wonderful advice about the proper way to calk and what cotton to buy and to call him during the process if I have any problems. WOW that was so cool.
Edit: To the story: So I tell people in my office. They are like yea his brother is the local stone mason in town and his dad, Hef used to own the Hayfied estate in Garrison on 110 acres that we just sold. Small world hmmm.

My pleasure. I'm always glad to help good folks get together on boat stuff. Chances are, Brad Hunter will be making the sails. Get his phone number so you don't have to go through Grant to get to Brad. Tell 'em you want sails like Wayne's Caledonia yawl! I need the commission check! ONLY KIDDING SCOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes Mike he spoke at lenth about "THE TOUCH" ;)
I also followed Steven's advice and called the people who take care of the Sloop Clearwater. I left a message telling them I would be willing to volunteer to help calk on their boat for free instructions on how to caulk mine smile.gif I figure once I get someone to call me back I will ask if I can hire or charm them to take a look and TOUCH Dove ;)

Nat Benjamin carries a cellphone?
That sullies the image somewhat, doesn't it?
Resistance truly is futile.

My mistake. I was thinking of Nat Wilson the sailmaker. Yep, I reckon Nat Benjamin would know corking.

MIke the Clearwater is a local wooden Sloop

In 1966, a handful of river-lovers decided to change the course of events that was destroying the Hudson, and reclaim a natural treasure for us all. They wanted to dramatize the river’s plight, recall its history, and help guide its future. They wanted to provide their fellow citizens with a first-hand look at the neglect and pollution of the river, and move them to action. So they built a boat.

QUESTION: What is a classic yacht?
ANSWER: by Nathaniel P. Benjamin
After nearly thirty years of continuous involvement with wooden sailing craft, I am more convinced than ever that a plank-on-frame vessel is the ultimate in yacht construction. * Not only does this method produce an enduring vessel with integrity, heart and soul, but it also requires a process that is so ancient and noble as to inspire the builder to work above his ability, to continue challenging himself in his expression of the rarest combination of science and art. According to Webster, the word 'classic' properly defines a vessel designed and serving as a 'standard of excellence' with an additional caveat of equal import to be 'enduring and traditional.'* In an age when 'classic' is so grossly distorted as to encompass an amorphous range of social unconsciousness from Coca Cola to a popular sitcom, we must remind ourselves of the real meaning of the word.* A 'classic yacht' must represent a graceful and well-proportioned hull whose individual parts are not only enduring but are created by a traditional process of skill and inspiration.* A classic yacht speaks to you in a distinct and compelling voice.
