Okay, now Stan has received a lot of grief for being from Texas, so I think that it is only fair that we acknowledge the uniqueness that makes Texas the great state that it is. Any state where it's legal to drink while you drive as long as you're not driving drunk, and where you can carry loaded handguns in your vehicle can't be all bad. Most of the rest of Hamerica does not realize that these policies were just Texas' way of trying to reduce the population! Sadly, they did not work nearly well enough. JUST KIDDING!! I've been to Texas on a number of trips and have always had a good time there, and usually had great luck in counting bowheads. Now a buddy of mine once got arrested in Texas for the crime of..
SLEEPING OUTDOORS! Like they don't have enough space in Texas for that? Well, that's another story. Meantime, here's my first link in what I hope will become a Texas tribute thread.

The Beloved Leader was born in a foreign country. It was only a matter of time before someone picked-up on those wacko's. Texas Rangers did a good job rounding-up some of them in West Texas 6 or 7 years ago.

And yes, Texas was a country before it became a state. I guess we knew a good thing when we saw it. smile.gif

No, Lone Star, I'm the one who hasn't been to Texas in a while! I'm aware that those nasty Texas socialists changed the gun and container laws, but back when I was there in the mid-80's, Texas was still the GREAT state and drinking while driving was legal, along with carrying loaded handguns in vehicles. Back then they had a big sign outside the doors into the DFW airport. It read: "no guns allowed inside terminal building". I don't imagine that sign is still posted today.

Back then your passangers could drink but not the driver, now no open containers are allowed. Gun laws changed when Texas went "concealed carry", since it's been a long time since I needed to have a handgun I no longer know the details - suffice it to say that the penalties are very stiff. When I did own a handgun you could carry it in your car unloaded with no ammunition in reach. You would have to get an officer of the law to give you more details than I have, but I do know that the big red "no guns allowed past this point" started showing up AFTER "concealed carry" was passed in Texas.

Sigh,
I guess my facts are wrong! My defense is that I got them from the native Texan friend I was visiting back then!

The big question though, is whether bowhead sightings have dropped off?

The big question though, is whether bowhead sightings have dropped off? Many Texans think it's effete to wear a bow on your head, so bowheads are definitely on the decline there.

There are plenty of bigheads left, though. smile.gif

Ah-h Bruce, back in the day many young Texan women sported bows in their hair. My Texan pal and his buddies called them bowheads and enjoyed getting a "bowheadcount" when out driving or in a bar.

A state that allows drinking in the car and carrying guns in public.... and Americans wonder where their international image comes from :D
