Credit cards are handy IF one pays in full, on time, every time. If we couldn't do that with ours we'd cut it up in a flash.

I have no problems with people using credit cards like lines of credit. It makes it easier for me should I find I need to do such a thing.

Frontline like all other TV has time to fill. I suspect that the number of errors made by credit card companies is small and could be easily fixed by the consumer. But ...

It makes better news if you find an incompetent consumer and an incompetent employee, and put them together.

Having weathered the storm of a bankruptcy in the mid 1980's, and being in the midst of the current financial typhoon, I can say this:

If you can't pay cash, don't buy it.

Banks now issue debit cards that work just like credit cards. Work to build a balance in your account that will cover you in emergencies and allow you to make car rental, hotel and transportation arrangements.

If you look at your expenditures, you will be able to budget yourself to stay within your cash means.

Believe me - you will simplify your life greatly and wind up with more money than you'd expect!

NO MORE CARDS FOR ME

We have ONE credit/debit card, cause you have too. We use it like a debit card and NOT as a credit card. NEVER AGAIN !!!! Live with in your means, Pay Cash.

Credit card works great for me. Paid on time every month and I get points toward free airline tickets and other things. I put all the regular expenses I can on it. Including my electric bill, groceries, clothing, shop supplies, all my fuel for the trucks and all the inventory and supplies I can for the business. If it can go on a card it goes there unless I get a discount for cash. They are a fantastic tool if you have the self discipline to pay the bill on time and use it as a tool to leverage your money and not as a "source of income".

I hate credit cards and yes, I have 4...I pay them off every month and have no outstanding bills.
What I hate worse are the blank checks card companies send you in the mail AND the calls at night offering you the moon, the stars, and what have you only for $79.95/year.
It's great when the first words are "we are going to send you......"
If one is gonna send something...send it...don't call up and tell me first...I might hang around the mailbox too long. :D
Then again, you can't rent a car without one...

We like to use an Alaska Airlines credit card to pay for anything related to my commercial fishing business. Those free miles really help when it's time to get off the rock!!! Plus we hope it helps come tax time for deductions and such (as a means of keeping records.) As it is, the big boat should qualify as a second home.

Sometimes we use it for groceries, as we get miles for the card, plus more miles from the store. But yes, a person must pay them off monthly, or things can get bad.
