FYI. This is from our corporate security department.

We have seen a sharp increase in mass e-mail with a suspicious .PIF attachment that contains a virus. Please be careful when you receive e-mail that contains hyperlinks or comes with unsolicited attachments, especially those that appear to come from someone you know.

Some examples of how the e-mail looks:

Example #1:
Subj.: Illegal
From: Known Sender
Body: Please do not send me your illegal stuff again!!!
Attachment: abuses.pif

Example #2:
Subj.: Numbers
From: Known Sender
Body: Are your numbers correct?
Attachment: pin_tel.pif

Example #3:
Subj.: Funny
From: Known Sender
Body: You have no chance...
Attachment: your_text.pif

If you have any doubts about the authenticity of an e-mail with an attachment, please do not download the attachment. If you are still in doubt, call the sender to verify that the e-mail is legitimate.

Hey Sue! Thanks, the family are all doing well. Hope you and MM and the youngun are doing well (and that your school agony is going well, too)! I still owe you some pics; I'm sorry about that. I'll get some to you soon (famous last words)

My ISP has started to ID suspected spam and viruses by labelling them {Spam?} or {Virus?}
