Hot apple cobbler with a big ol' slab of vanilla ice cream.........those were the days.
Nowadays it's a reasonable slice of sugar free apple pie.....still real good, but not quite the same (I am insulin dependent).

I always enjoy a good old fashioned cottage cheese sandwich with ketchup, surrounded by my cats.

Australia is definitely the desert of choice! An entire desert continent surrounded by a lunatic fringe! ;) As evidence I offer Wild Dingo and the other Aussie forum lurkers! :D

MKIA, I prefer my cheesecake plain - all that other stuff hides the true flavor and texture of the cake :D Problem is, I can't just have one slice, so I don't ever buy it.
Same for ice cream. I like it too much to keep it in the house! :(

Jim, yum! See my problem? It's just sweets! If it's loaded with sugar and fat and has no nutritional value it's the ultimate food. I think chocolate (dark, of course) is a food group.

Okra - our annual Irmo festival is the Okra Strut. Don't ask me how it got started - I think a local radio guy used to make fun of Irmese growing okra. smile.gif

I am losing weight, 20lbs so far, a 120 to go, and I'm doing it by avoiding temptation.
,,,,,,,,,,so this thread has been a big help, thanks. May your testicles turn to sugar cubes and caramalize at the corners.

KM sez, "Okra - our annual Irmo festival is the Okra Strut"
Will you show us how to do the Okra Strut this weekend KM? :D
I quite understand, Ian. I started losing 45 pounds ago and have about twice that to go.
Favorite desert? There are so many.
Shortcake, with berries & real whipped cream. Maybe a drizzle of chocholate. Berries can be strawberry, blackberry, rasberry, ... or a mixture.

Karen, I lost my taste for sweets a couple of years ago, except for the occasional pint of Bluebell Ice Cream's "Tin Roof". I started snacking on salty things like chips or pistashios, but I stopped that also. Cannolis (sp), like I remember from Atlanic City's Steel Pier, are hard to find down here. Iguess I'll just have to make do with BBQ, the perfect snack/meal/dessert. :D

On the concept of southern fried Okra. Yesterday at work we have a southern chef training and she made FRIED PICKLES. Boys and girls this died in the wool Lower East Side dill pickle at KATZ DELI loving New Yorker thought he died and went to heaven. MAN O MAN could I eat a bucket of them. For Summer: Strawberry pie made with home grown strawberries picked at the moment of perfect ripeness. Serve with whipped cream on top.
or use those strawberries to make home made ice-cream.... wow!
For Fall: Warm apple pie made with a blend of apples served with vanilla ice-cream...
For Winter & Spring try chocolate pound cake or lemon chiffon pie.
And I'm trying to lose weight too... So CUT IT OUT! :D :D

Sorry to disappoint, MM, but I've made it a point for the last 25 years to AVOID Irmo during the Okra strut! I think the thing needs to be move to Augusta, Ga. I do love fried okra, but I'm just not big on crowds ;) A couple of my boys have marched in the parade with scouts and ROTC. It reminds me of the parade in "Doc Hollywood" smile.gif The mayor with his race car and his little antique cars, local politicians, children's dance schools, brownies, scouts, karate schools and a crew of moms with strollers and toddlers (I think they were "mothers against birth control" ;) )
Irmo has grown tremendously in 40 years, but the Okra Strut parade is pure small town smile.gif
I'm trying to lose weight too - well, I'm thinking about it, anyway. There's just not one thing fun about it! Gaining weight is loads of fun! Not fair.

Katey is partial to the Taklamakan in western China, which is one of the more desolate parts of the silk road, but archeologically fascinating.
PEANUT BUTTER PIE (a la Hannibal's Cafe, Union, ME)
Chocolate crumb crust.
Melt 6 oz semi sweet chocolate with 1/2 cup heavy cream and use to seal crust, saving a little bit for the top of the pie.
Cream together:
1 cup peanut butter
1 cup cream cheese
1 cup sugar
Fold in:
2 t. vanilla
1 1/2 cup heavy cream, whipped
Dump into pie crust and drizzle reserved chocolate on top. Refrigerate or you get a peanut butter puddle instead of a pie.
Katey's father is a connaisseur of peanut-butter pies and, at age 63, he declared this one to be easily the best he'd ever had. We had to beg for the recipe.
Dan & Katey
P.S. Katey's father's cholesterol is 126.
