I have a 1990 Morgan era hacker that has much rot in the stern around the gas tank area. The keel board is rot, some ribs, intermediaries, and even a few of the side planks. Bottom planks seem ok, both layers. Can anyone familiar with these boats and this situation offer any insight? Any good repair shops on the East Coast? What should I do? Thanks

Hello Pismo

Check with the Fish Brothers (http://www.adirondack.net/products/mahogany/) in upstate New York. I believe Pete Fish used to work for Bill Morgan and Hacker. Don't know for sure, but he may have some insight as to the best way to repair or who to see.

ThanksTry System Three Endrot Kit, and follow the directions... Kills the mold that causes rot, Treats weakened wood, prevents future rot and replaces missing (rotted away) wood with Wood Putty-epoxy. Can get from Sys-3 or Jamestown Distributors.

Pismo, sounds alot like the condition of the Lyman that I am restoring *was* in. Some owner befor me did the gitrot thing and it was a sad-a$$ job.

I removed and installed all new ribs, the transom has been replaced, and after I finish replacing the rotted stem and a section of rotted keel, I'm going to scarf in new planks sections where rot is suspect.

I suggest you take it to a shop where they'll approach the repair in a similar fashion.

Gitrot, or any other quickfix goo-job is not an acceptable repair for a boat like this.
