Thank you very much John B for prividing the impitus for me to plumb a bucket to the water pump and fire up the Yanmar prior to launch.
Priming was easier than I though it would be thanks to a "Professional" suction pump which got fuel up over the hump, through the fuel filter and down to the fuel pump. And, thanks to JohnR who got me to look for the manual fuel pump lever, etc.
Anyway, with Phyllis standing by at the emergency fuel shutoff I cranked it over, it fired almost instantly, sucked water out of the bucket, and ran perfectly. The book said to idle it 15 minutes for breakin. Quite a bit of shake at 800 RPM but when we reved up is smoothed out nicely.
So if I never figure out what all those ropes hanging from the mast are for we can chug around the slough.
Engine room out.
