Hi all
I just got the plans for Doug Hylan's Beach Pea, and after looking over them, I have a question for the forum members. The plans describe making patterns for the individual planks. Couldn't I just spile them like a normal plank?
The boat is glued lap, it would seem to me that if I beveled the bottom planks and took my spilings from the edges of the bevel, it would work just fine. Any thoughts?

Yeah Greg. If you've spiled planks before, spiling for planks on this boat should be no problem as long as you have the hull lined off for the plank lands.
Pretty boat, post photos of your progress for us.

GregI'm building the same boat, hope to start painting in a week. I didn't make patterns for the planks. I did goof on one of the planks and had to buy another sheet of plywood. Otherwise no great problems. It really is a nice looking boat.

Are you planning on coating the boat with epoxy? I'd like to avoid it if possible, what are your thoughts?

I plan on coating it inside and out with CPES and the coating the plywood edges with epoxy.
