My youngest daughter was one of those who went and picked up the book the first night. Then she promptly left town for two weeks and didn't read it.
I tried to read the first one but didn't enjoy it. Never finished it. I have seen all of the movies, though. I do enjoy the movies.
My youngest daughter and I always go to the Harry Potter movies together when they come out, within a few days of the opening. A tradition. It sounds strange, but when the first one came out Chryssie was what, 12 or 13? Now she is a young woman of 17 and will be starting college in January (actually she's already taking college classes at night while she finishes high school). This next one may be the last that we go to see together. I hope not. Hopefully she won't outgrow her ol' dad that quickly.

JK Rowling is back on form; this one is much better than "The order of the Phoenix".
Incidentally, this volume should give those "Christian" fundamentalists who dislike the Potter series on the grounds that it is "un-Christian" to mention witches and wizards (which makes the Bible's reference to the Witch of Endor a bit problematical! ;) ) cause to reflect on their silliness. It is well known that Rowling is a communicant member of the Church of Scotland, and yes, it's all pretty orthodox (but germane to the plot and not at all over-done, so agnostics and atheists need not be alarmed!)
