Does anyone have a source for 4d galvanized clench nails for fastening plank laps?

4d galvanized nails are available in any building supply store. But in my experience when they are bent at a fairly sharpe angle the zinc spalls off and they are then prone to rusting. I have repaired a 100 year old house that had the siding nailed with bright nails, well set and puttied and painted. These nails were still prefectly servicable when I pulled them to replace siding boards broken when a storm thrown tree hit the house. Of course these nails were not exposed to the weather on both sides as will be the case with a boat.Ssor

$9.00 a pound for 4-penny galvanized nails.

I'm in the wrong business.

I'm in the wrong business. At $6 per refurbished chisel sold on ebay I'd say so. smile.gif

Now isn't this a good lesson in business and marketing. Take a business almost 200 years old, starving with virtually no orders  , got this old mill, really old arhn machines and what to do. Hmmmm let's just get old Norme boy to use some of our products and tell the yuppie house restorers how important it is to use the same type of nails, made in the original factory, as were used a long time ago when the house was originally built. tongue.gif By gosh it worked now they have plenty of orders from people who just don't care what the cost is. :D So basic supply and demand they got them, the customer wants them.

Just saw that Hamilton Marine in Searsport,Me sells cut galvanized nails, but I still don't believe that these are meant to be clinched.

If your using the nails on a boat. You don't want galvanized clinch nails, you want HOT DIPPED galvanized clinch nails. There is a difference.

The other better option is Silicon Bronce Clinch Nails. Jamestown Distributors on the web is a great source for fasteners and other boat stuff.
