1955 Chris cruiser aft deck. Have removed old varnish and reefed seams. Replaced seamcaulk w/ Sikaflex and have sanded all new work to 220.
Any suggestions for a clearcoat that is tougher than varnish?....but wont look "milky" or "plastic". Polyurethane has been suggested. Any comments w/b appreciated...Thanks!

www.nyalic.com (http://www.nyalic.com)
Crystal clear nylonic polymer coating 100% UV proof
100% water proof
Goes on like liquid water
Will never yellow crack peel etc...
Used commercially for years but few know about it.
It will soak into the wood and it will seal it.

Has anyone else had experience with this product?

Can you cut and polish a Nyalic surface to glass? ... like you can to a 2 pack polyurethane paint.
This Nyalic material sounds just too good to be true ... and self levelling (that would be different). This sound exactly what is needed, on wooden foils if it can be polished.
How long does it take to set (if it really is self levelling)?
How long does it take to harden to a usable level?
... and how long does it take to reach a hard cure?
Is Nyalic temperature dependent during the application?
Cheers in advance. Nyalic has an Aussie agent, this could work out ... if it really is self levelling.
Warren.

It is up to the painter if the paint looks plastic. You can tone-down overly glossy surfaces with additives or by changing technique.
As you have an oil base, continue with your oil base. Otherwise you might have a fast deteriation of your new paint type, if you change to a new paint base ... if and when the old oil, starts to sweat out.
I'd say, try a poly/oil blend varnish. This material is tougher than traditional varnish. I use it as a textured anti-skid and when painting over old varnish residues (even when I can't see them they're there ... they wait).

Nyalic is the kind of finish you always wished you could get.
A gallon goes a long way.
It goes on just like you painted it with water.
Recoats with ease no sanding stripping etc...
Just clean off the surface and paint it on, it self anneals so new coats melt into old coats.
a freshly sanded wood surface would be perfect.
I originally heard about from detailers who work with cars and motorcycles.
One of the testimonails on the site claims this -
"I discovered a product called NyalicŪ...and applied it to my boat. Two years later the wood on my boat is as if I had varnished it last week. I have done nothing but wash is periodically."

I emailed them the other day and got this responce:
Hello Jason.
Re: Message Received From Nyalic Web Site
You may be surprised to have email from way down here in NZ but I was in your fair country just last month , You are indeed blessed with a beautiful place in which to reside and work.
Nyalic Global Marine /Nyalic NZ Ltd has been appointed world marine distributor for Nyalic products , We also tender marine technical support worldwide and to that end that is why you are talking with me today.
Nyalic is widely used in the Southern Hemisphere in the marine sector where the largest users are aluminum boat manufacturers whom apply Nyalic direct to aluminum hulls /decks etc to preserve against corrosion /UV breakdown and making those coated surfaces easily cleaned.
Nyalic has been in constant use for 7 years in our aggressive marine environment.
Check out our website on www.nyalic.co.nz (http://www.nyalic.co.nz) for extensive information.
To your question.
Marine clear coats for wood.
Nyalic can be used a primer and finish coat for any properly prepared wooden surface..
Teak and oily woods can be problematical and the usual precautions should be taken i.e. solvent or stroing alkalai cleaning/ washing to remove the top inner layers of natural oils and cleaning residues before thorough drying and coating.
Nyalic can be used as a full UV and weather protection system for application over most any surface.
Need for complete drying and cleanliness of the substrate is paramount in achieving satisfactory and long lasting results.
Nyalic is best used as a final protective barrier over traditional single pack or two pack finishes to provide additional UV protection / added corrosion or wear protection and best of all ease of recoating due to scratching etc.
Nyalic can be applied toy Epoxy resin to forestall breakdown of the epoxy underneath.
Nyalic is a thin film build product 25 % solids and self annealing so subsequent maintenance coats always melt the existing Nyalic surface blending into a homogenous crystal clear finish.
Nyalic being single pack and curing by solvent evaporation means that Nyalic can be applied by foam roller or brush or spray with no dwell time no mixing no added solvents and no wastage.. Nyalic keeps indefinitely in a closed container.
One of our most recent commissions was providing Nyalic as the final encapsulating coat over two pack finished hand rails on one of the worlds largest top Feadship Super yachts for a private client.
The Master of this vessel in particular was sick of sanding and re coating twopack finishes on cap rails all 600 feet of them and was looking for an alternative.
Our advice was to prepare the cap rails as per usual , back to bare wood if needed . Apply any good marine two pack urethane to build the finish he required, let cure , then wash down and apply Two coats Nyalic so that the Nyalic takes the scratches/ and the wear and subsequent coats of Nyalic require little in the way of prior preparation usually entailing a maintenance coat as required , Scratches disappear and the surface becomes self cleaning and salt spotting is almost eliminated.
Nyalic on Bronze / Propellers/Stainless steel/Chrome :
Nyalic can be used to encapsulate without substantially changing the colour of bronze brass etc in any situation portholes ships fittings etc can be cleaned and polished in a variety of ways
We have our own cleaners
Tuff prep for removing oxidation from metals /water based biodegradable
Right Rinse and Simple Prep are detergent type degreasers and non residual surface cleaning agents that leave metals super clean and ready for Nyalic coating.
Specific instructions can be forwarded by email free of charge on prep and application.
All products are available direct from HBI Atlanta per Skip Hawkins www.nyalic.com (http://www.nyalic.com)
Be assured that Nyalic is used by some of the premier super yacht builders in New Zealand including Mc McMullen and Wing.Salthouse,Johnson Yachts to name but a few.
Any search on Google for Nyalic will bring many recommendations
We are happy to send more information in PDF file format or post an informative CDRom with additional information or you are welcome to liaise with us directly at no cost to yourself for technical and product back up.
Nyalic can be purchased direct from the manufacturer in the USA contact Skip Hawkins hbiinc@bellsouth.net

Jason and sdowney, thanks Mates ... it is the self-levelling (& I've seen self-levelling) that I'm interested in and Nyalic's ability to be polished.
The 'clumpy by nature' poly, on a racing surface, is hard work, elsewhere on a small boat, I couldn't be happier with poly. I'm looking for a higher quality in one or two hits on foils, rather than the 6 that it takes with the poly.
