I have a photo of the General in my Grandmother's Clemson, SC living room, from maybe the 70s. I forget the occassion. I'll have to inquire and see if anyone remembers.
She made it to 95.

He was the guest speaker at the 1987 VHPA reunion in DC.
An interesting man. He had some regrets but was overall pretty satisfied with what he'd done. Glad I met him.
RIP sir.
George.

I wonder how many Vietnamese are satisfied with what he did.
I wonder how many wish him to rest in peace, as opposed to burn in hell.

Come off it George...The first time I talked to a returning G.I. from Viet Nam, he told me of going into a village after the lovable North Viet Namese had visited...they had summarily executed the village chief (a man in his seventies) then to make sure they had everyone's attention had tied an eighteen year old pregnant girl to a post and cut out her baby so she could watch it die while she died...I'm glad you seem to favor these people...they obviously need friends.
George.

I do not favor these people.
I have no doubt that the Communists were even more brutal than the Americans, and perhaps even more hated.
The ordinary people of Vietnam were caught in the middle. Whether the Germans were worse than the Russians made little difference to the people of Poland. Hitler was no excuse for Stalin. Ho Chi Min was no excuse for carpet bombing.
