View Full Version : Stan Come Back I was wrong

I just wanted the Bilge to settle down into what it used to be, Misc. BS. We went from balanced C&P to all Liberal all the time C&P. The Libs just wanted to silence any opposition or opposing opinion.

So I hope you'll accept my apology and bring yourself back to the Bilge.

Happy Thanksgiving to those of you that complained about the C&P back when it was more than just Lib C&P, you get what you deserve. I actually called Stan on it, which is more than what you have done - in retrospect I'm sorry I did you were not worth it.

George., if there were any justice on this board you'd have been scoted long ago and often. The fact that you can continually break the rules and remain just points to the intellectual dishonesty of how rthe rules are brokered.

Integrity, look up the definition sometime.

George's Boat he built.

I can think of no one finer to have aboard this WoodenBoat Forum, and obviously Scot is in full agreement.

Jim need we say more. As for you all hat and no cattle.

Hey we all get wrapped around our own axe , or axisle (sp). Crap I have ,Joe has , George is from another country , he is intitled to his OP , doesn't have to be Humble .

As a sailor in USN you are , weather you like it or not , a ambassator for your country .

ya that sucks , as a world wide forum we need to look at the whole world .

I as a sailor 1977 - 1990 , in 1990 met some multi national soldres in Tel Avive, Isr. they where the anti jewish people I've ever met , bigot's to say the least .

I've seen worst then George , and he just hates US , some of you seem that way as well . Traveled much ? If at all ? unike Jamie I really can't spell and frankly I don't give a damn tonight . I think it is close enough to be better than Zimmer .

So George is anti american so what. That is the least of my fears . Happy Thanksgiving, George , because we can smile.gif

So George is anti american so what I would rate George as provocative rather than anti-American. It helps to have a provocative viewpoint around.

Wow, a thread about me! :D

"Anti-American?" Let me tell you something. You don't know what anti-American is. Get out and travel. Hear people's opinions. You will find that I am one of the most pro-American foreigners in Europe or Latin America. Yes, that's how bad it is.

Real America haters don't bother to discuss issues with Americans on such a forum, or try to prod them to react and live up to America's promise. They just hate America, and discuss it with one another. Just like none of you xenophobes go into some Arab forum to criticize Islamism - you all just rant about it to one another.

Jim, tell me ONE rule of this forum that I have violated. And you better be ready to prove it.

PS: the reason libs are dominating the bilge is because the positions the conservatives were defending have become indefensible, one by one. Just look at your president's approval ratings - are you going to blame that on Scot too? tongue.gif

I agree with George.

There are times when the urge to yank the chain of our more absurdly over-"patriotic" American friends becomes irresistible. ;)

But that does not make one "anti-American", any more than Bob Smalser doing the same to me makes him "anti-British".

JH starts a thread which goes after a group and an individual and then complains about the rules and uses the words "integrity"... "intelectual dishonesty"?

Go ahead, take George up on his challenge. Otherwise, Joe has got it just right. All hat BS.

This is interesting. Can anyone remember anyone ever saying of Stan or Karen or Oyster when he was frothing, that they agreed with the politics but were unhappy with the delivery? I even kinda like Donn, but he could easily be put in that class at times too. He could be a bully. Any such comments from the right were pretty few and far between. It appears that the libs are able to separate the message and the messenger. (Sigh. I miss Norm.)

There are some liberals around here who do push the point a bit far, yet on the whole I agree with them. George and ljb5 are fine examples. Dutch too sometimes. And when I think of how long I suffered through Stan talking about how he'd love to see certain men sodomized by pigs, how he wrapped himself in the flag and covered it with his filth, I loose any sympathy I might have had for the conservatives who complain that a few liberals play hardball.

George, I liked the cartoon, even while the truth of it saddens me.

I've seen no rule that George's broken. He's pointedly supported his views, frequently these are about American foreign policy. But other times about evolution. Or religion. Or ...

He hasn't taken any sh!t from anyone, to be sure, but has he knowingly spread lies? None I've seen. Has he acknowledged when he's been mistaken, or apologized for occasional fits of temper? Yes to both. Has he applied the same rigorous standards to any political discussion - involving his own country or others? Yup.

On the other hand, I've seen no threats, very little name-calling, and frequently a fair bit of wit mixed with his indignation.

"Foreign" liberals are becoming less welcome on this board, if they talk about world issues that involve the American government. We've had versions of this conversation a few times over the past several weeks. But the same answers still apply. American foreign policy is daily fodder because:

1. It doesn't just affect America. The Superpower's actions affect the world.

2. Lots of folks here have opinions on it, and want to talk about it. Americans, and others.

3. Few show a great deal of interest in talking about other global issues, or domestic political issues in places other than the US which affect the rest of the world. What threads there are, drop like bricks.

4. WBF is not an American forum, though WoodenBoat is based in the US. This is a global forum; no citizenship papers are needed before launching into any of the discussions.

GEORGE anti-American??? ROTFL!!! You obviously have no clue what anti-American really is. He’s anti-Bush, anti-Iraq war, certainly, but that describes somewhat more than half the US these days.

My understanding of the he forum rules, such as they are:
- No threats
- No egregious name-calling
- Be reasonably polite
- Don’t say anything you wouldn’t say to a very amiable and slightly drunk guy who stands 6’8 and weighs 280 lbs. sitting on a barstool next to you.

If you can show that George (or ljb5, for that matter) breaks these rules, do so. StanV had no concept of politeness or civility.

If you want to post opposing arguments that are as coherent and intelligent as those posted by George, please do so. I’ll be very pleased, even though I may not agree. Jägermeister and cedarsavage have done exactly that lately, with notable civility. They’re a great addition to the forum, even though I disagree with them on almost every issue. The reason I bother to particupate in political discussions here is that there are some intelligent people whe disagree with me, but can discuss issues( or even argue passionately ) without resorting to name-calling.

A search of ljb5's posts (if the search feature actually worked  ) would reveal dozens, perhaps hundreds, of instances of him calling people "idiots", "morons", etc.

He is one of the most frequent violators of the forum's rules.

The relevant bit: "if you use our site, you agree not to:

Joe, in all fairness, it's true -- I have occasionally said some things I've regretted.

So has nearly everyone here -- especially those self-appointed arbiters of civility who occasionally get themselves thrown off.

I don't know what standard Scot uses to decide who to expel, but so far, I haven't run afoul of it. I try to keep my discussions topical, fact-based and impersonal. I don't threaten people, I don't follow them around or try to hunt them down outside of the forum and I don't pick fights. Apparently, that's good enough.

Occasionally, I tell someone they're wrong when, in fact, they are wrong. Why shouldn't I? Would you let a friend walk around with a booger hanging out of his nose? Why wouldn't you correct him if he was mistaken?

I won't apologize for vigorously defending the truth -- but I will look for a more polite way to do it. However, I don't feel obligated to be the only polite person here.

High C

Joe, you're full of crap.

Yes, I speak bluntly sometimes, and very critically against views and people whom I believe richly deserve it, but the number of times I have called someone an ugly name here can be counted on three fingers. And twice an anapology quickly followed. The third occassion, well....he's gonna have to wait a while.

You're a fine one to talk!

High C., you seem to think that abuse is acceptable if the subject "richly deserves" it. Hence...

You richly deserve it, Norman. You are a pompous ass, nothing more than a robot who regurgitates stock, partisan blather in haughty fashion, and whines like a baby at anyone who dares to challenge your propaganda.I don't remember Norman having spoken to anyone like that, so I don't really know why he "richly deserves" to be called names, or why you might think your post was not a breach of the forum rules you posted above. No doubt you had your reasons.

Now, now, Sam, remember I asked you to read the 39 Articles?

The possession of a fine wooden yacht is the outward and visible sign of an inward and spiritual grace .

See article 24:

But The Wicked, and such as be void of a lively faith, although they do carnally and visibly press with their teeth (as Saint Augustine saith) the Sacrament of the Body and Blood of Christ; yet in no wise are they partakers of Christ: but rather, to their condemnation, do eat and drink the sign or Sacrament of so great a thing.

So the Wicked, though they so visibly and carnally own a fine wooden boat, yet in no wise are they the partakers of civilised values...
