I'm looking for a product to fill the area between the planking and the keel used to keep water and debris out. I have heared of pitch being used and also parifin.
Any suggestions?

First, you are from the wrong part of the country to be calling yerself Smuttynose, tongue.gif unless of course you can get Smuttynose beer in VA. :D Now about fillers, another option is concrete, like everything to do with boats some like using it and others don't.

Is there really beer called "Smuttynose" ???
How drunk would you have to be to drink that?
Reminds me of an old Monty Python beer...

Is there a Smuttynose beer? Of course, :D brewed right here in New Hampshire :D Smuttynose (http://www.smuttynose.com/) If ya like beer, not that commercial stuff that is like sex in a canoe, give it a try. Great stuff for the moaning chair by the boat, helps take some of the pain out of riveting, etc. :D The web site tells all about it and some of the history of the island off the coast that shares the same name.

Smuttynose is a long (usually) uninhabited island in the Maine part of the Isle of Shoals. It is a great place to get out of the boat and take a walk while visiting the archipelago. Of course, the murders (http://www.seacoastnh.com/smuttynose/) on the island are still talked about even 130 some odd years later. -- and don't forget the Pirate Gold (http://www.seacoastnh.com/arts/please100700.html)

I've had a bottle or two of smuttynose. As I recall it was quite good. But then I can't remember having a bad beer made in Vermont, New Hampshire, or Maine. (And yes, I've had plenty of bad beer.)

Interestingly, this Smuttynose is a small granit island at the North East enterance to Eggemoggin Reach. Its also an Arno Day designed and built lobster boat. The beer is good too. You can also get it at a small social establishment on Ocrocoke Island .
