I would like to have a get together of boat builders in my area. This would be for sharing what we do and maybe ways we could help each other too. Drop me a msg. if you are interested.
Thanks,
Katherine

If there are any south western Michigan boat builder, any one want to make some extra money working on my OWENS?

Sounds like a good idea.
Do you have a place in mind?

John,
I do not yet have a place in mind and am open to suggestions.

Greg:
I hope Dennis M drop in as this seems to be something he would be interested in. He and I met up at Paw Paw Lake (named after someone's favorite dad I suppose ;) ) and had a fine time sailing around.
Are you intending a messabout or buildabout? I would think nothing of driving over to Paw Paw Lake again - great little lake for puttering around in.

Not there yet :( , but I'm starting to build a summer place in Covert Township. Basement should have room to build smaller boats. Will keep in touch.

How accessable is the water at the Michigan Maritme Museum in South Haven? Could we putz about in the harbor/river there?
They were very cordial during their maritme days back in July (and once hosted the WoodenBoat Show too!).
They have a launching "area" near the shed with the coast guard/life saving service boat.

I live in Fenton, near Flint. I own a Skerry, kit by clcboats.com. I'll keep my eye on this thread.

There is a wooden boat show at the Pentwater Yacht Club the last Saturday in August. It is dominated by the $100,000 professional restorations but they welcome individual small boats and seem very imperssed with home builts or home restorations. I have attended the last two years and felt welcome. It would be a good venue for a get together if interestred. I am not a member and only an attendee. Also agree the Great Lakes Maritime Museum would be a good cantral location and I can't immagine they would run off a group of builders. 2 of us here in Mason County.
Edit to add aditional thought

On a similar but different note, the Quiet Water Symposium is coming up on March 4th at MSU:

Its usually an interesting event, although I see they have raised their price to $8. I don't know what they use the money for...
But anyway, its one of my indicators that spring is around the corner and its messing about (indoors) with boats!

I have emailed you twice and not received a reply to date. Was this a serious request or just some lamenting?

Sorry, my SPAM filter tends to do a little over kill some days.
I'll be at the quiet water with my wifes strip canoe "Skitter"

Hello from Holland Michigan.
I built a CLC Skerry and would be up for any get together events this summer. I much prefer quiet no-wake lakes to the others.

Perhaps we all could meet in South Haven or St. Joseph at a local eatery and visit?

So for a boating get-together it sounds like we are looking for a smaller lake with a large enough open area (grass/beach) for launching and beaching smaller boats. Is this the consensus?
Does anyone know of such an area that is centrally located? Most of the small lakes in my area have a single width launch area with either trees and or rocks on both sides.
There was a small boat symposium held in Saginaw for a number of years at a municipal park adjoining the freeway. That lake appears to be of the "gravel pit" for the freeway variety. It wasn't the prettiest spot, but it worked well for a messabout.
Lets hear the suggestions!

Greg, can you suggest a place and a time? South Haven might be better since its a bit closer to the Holland/GR area...

Said it once and I'll say it again... Paw Paw Lake is a great one. Place to meet? Meet you at the boat ramp!

Wrong time of year to meet at the boat ramp, and the question on the table for this thread was to get the boat builders together for boat building issues. A mess about is a good idea too, but not what I was asking about to begin this thread. Two different issues, correct? We could plan a mess about I suppose?
Am I confused here?

Sorry, it seemed to be going in both directions, so I was trying to address both.
Back to your first question though, when and where would be a good place to have what others have termed an "elbow bending session"?
Usually when I am in South Haven I go to Subway and then to the beach to eat it so I am not all that familiar with the "sit down" eateries.
Can you suggest a time and place?
We need to start a new thread for a messabout (at Paw Paw Lake???)>
