View Full Version : grey seal deck question...
Hi !! as you know I´m building the deck, fitting the deck beams and so... I have an ugly slagg at the sheer at the aft, in both sides of the hull, I would like to know how can I repair this, I have thought that I can glue one rubrail first to take the the right line "curve" and then laid the deck over the sheer and that rubrail.... after that I would install the final rubrail over the previous and the deck edge.... what do you think ?? an other method ?? well thank you very much !!!
cheers !! Emiliano.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'slag' Emiliano - you mean 'sag'?
If so, then you mean the topstrake doesn't take the curve it's supposed to? That could be a problem since once it's glued up it should be as stiff as a board tongue.gif
Screws don't have a lot of pulling power. They're good at holding, but not so good for closing gaps. Bolts are better.
Have you tried putting a beam across and using a car jack to bend them out? The worst thing that can happen is that the boat might explode  You could use wedges instead if you're a little on the conservative side.
If you use the method you described then you might still have to replace the strakes, so all that extra decking work is not something I would want to do until I was happy with the strakes.
If the unfairness is really pronounced and it just won't allow itself to be tortured into submission, then you'll just have to replace part of the wobbly strakes. It doesn't sound so bad if you say it fast
Thanks Arama for your answer... and yes I wanted to say SAG, but it is not what do you think, I have the sag on the sheer (if you take a top view) and the strake is well bonded to it, the problem is,may be in the mold and I don´t think that pulling from the inside it will take the shape... the problem will be more visible when I laid the deck, so I was thinking in the method above... by installing a false rubrail and well shaping the sheer curve then I will have a good curve at the sheer to lay the deck.. understand??
well thank you very much !!
Emiliano
