Hppened to be in Penn Station, had an hour to kill before the train to Aberdeen, NJ departed. Went up to the street, found that 'cause of the London bombing the NY Guard was deployed here. The buck sgt, from out east LI who i had a fine conversation with had more white hair than me. As we all know these fellas & gals are doing more than there share & they are financially stressed. Never met any that gripe about it though. Like any other conversation with someone you like even at first encounter we were speaking about allot of similarities. Besides the service ours was kayaks. To try to make a long story more to the point this fella rents his kayak because he can't afford one right now - what ever the reason kids in college etc. that's the story. His main gig is with Suffolk Cement in Riverhead. Here's my idea: I would like to hear from one of you looking to sell a touring kayak, offer a decent price & by donations from the members of no more than a dollar or two i'll send ya the money when we reach that amount. If you are within rd. trip distance on the east cost i'll come & get the boat (with $ in hand) & bring it out to Riverhead. If we don't have anyone selling this type of craft I'm sure we could find one. Again, a request is being made of you all to chip in to say thanks to a heck of a decent guy. Who knows maybe something like this can catch on for other service members as well. BTW, i'd like to wrap this up within a month or two. Thanks

It's probably be too far away, more than you're looking to spend and it's glass, not wood, but I've got my Mariner II listed on a couple kayak boards. It cost me $3,100 and I have it listed for $2,300 in mint condition. It's a custom-built, world class kayak with all the options and is a dream to paddle but my 6'4 height and size 13 feet just don't fit in it for very long, so it only gets used a couple times per season. If somebody has a decent rotomold available, it might be more what you're thinking of and a hell of a lot more affordable, but I'll toss it in the heap just in case folks are feeling REALLY generous as it needs a good home. smile.gif

As the old Norse saying goes: "Bound is a boatless man"

Your boat sure looks like a classic Nordkapp. Thanks for the offer I hope we can do it, getting it to NY will not be the hard part.

just in case any of ya do send & buck or two. Any that possibly arrive here in Crookly will if not adequit to meet the needs of the fundraising purpose will be sent to WB for what ever fundraiser in the future comes along.
While i know most of ya believe that since trees are free & the wind is free there might not be any need to squander your $ for such an extravigent request. I'd still like to know what many of ya think is a proper thank you to the troops being called to serve.

anyone know any powers @ Chessapeake Kayak who could send along there rock bottom price for a kit? Slightly irregular would even work. For that matter any other company would be ok also.

News Flash - forget the whole thing just went rummaging through my colllection of stuff & found my plans for the Tasman Sea Kayak by John Winters - Canadian. I'm gonna go out there with them & we'll build 2 of them. Thank you all very much. Should any funds arrive will use for supplies.

I got a Seda Swift

Just like this one gathering dust in my barn. Sounds like a worthy cause, I will donate it.
