View Full Version : Alder as a viable wood?

I recently bought a "grab bag" of lumber from a hardwood dealer that included some 600 board feet of red alder. Too good of a deal to pass up, really. I know that alder has cabinetry & furniture uses, does anyone have info on its durability in water?
Thanks,
Bruce

Thanks Tony
SWMBO will be thrilled to hear that it all may be used for furniture.

'Course, it would probably be just the stuff for building molds too... ;-}

I don't know Art, on my side of the Sound we use Alder for stove fuel.

How about cutting it up into little pieces and selling it for onboard stove fuel at Waste Marine? You could make a fortune.
