As a kid, I had some pretty quick slot cars, and that’s all I could think of watching that — a 12”=1’ slot car.

Now is that because of the sound or the handling?

Either way, it's a hell of a lap. The previous long-standing record was set in 1983, and it just fell last year.

That would be this ride. . .

If the speedometer is in km/h, the top speed is surprisingly low? Max I saw was around 270 km/h. I know lap time is a better measure around the circuit, but the Porsche 911 GT2 is good for around 340 km/h, from what I read.

Maybe both? And my fastest car was a Chaparral 2D, which even looks a little like the ID.R I think.

The ID.R owns Pike's Peak, the fastest time of any vehicle.

Yeah, I thought that too.

How long is a pit stop? Seems like recharging would take a bit of time.

It is just like a big RC car. Looks and sounds IDENTICAL...

Peace,
Robert

You had a Chapparral? There's a story here I think.

@ the speed posts: the VW set the electric car record, not the overall record.

Correct, that 919 in post #3 is the overall record. Previously the record was 6:11, which is slower than the VW.

That 919 was a hybrid car though, so I guess an argument could be made that the VW was faster than any ICE only car has been.

Cool - I bet there are some stories. I remember seeing those big fans & thinking "Brilliant".

Dude I used to know built slot car tracks.

I knew some heavy duty RC racers, too.

I LOVE the wee machines, but never my cup of tea. We still sometimes go to the hobby shop and watch the slot cars.

Peace,
Robert

In a straight line, I am not sure it got to that speed on the Nurburgring

Here is that 911 run, 6:40 and some change. I think this is the one being mentioned, the official lap for fastest production car

Hahahaha!

Yeah, my 2D was a magnesium framed Cox, with a re-wound Mitsubishi 26D motor, 1/24th scale.
