JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Missouri’s Republican-led Senate has passed a wide-ranging bill to ban abortions at eight weeks of pregnancy, acting only hours after Alabama’s governor signed a near-total abortion ban into law.

The Missouri bill needs another vote of approval in the GOP-led House before it can go to Republican Gov. Mike Parson, who voiced support for an earlier version Wednesday.

The legislation includes exceptions for medical emergencies, but not for pregnancies caused by rape or incest. Doctors would face five to 15 years in prison for violating the eight-week cutoff. Women who receive abortions wouldn’t be prosecuted.

You Blues should ask yourself how a historically Democrat state became so Republican.

It's no great mystery. Since the Civil Rights era (which isn't really over yet) began, the racists and sexists and American Taliban and anti-immigration bigots flocked to the Republican Party.

And what would a paedophile rapist face if convicted?

Because the Democrats pushed for equal rights and the Voting Rights act and Johnson signed them. The racists flocked to the Republican party.

What were they thinking! My mom switched from R to D in the early sixties for that reason.

I was raised in the forever Red state neighbor Kansas, but living here in Missouri, things like having to do two years of paperwork to start a business, all to make that higher Blue state style domestic GDP of having to get papers from one state office to give to the other, and there is no bureaucracy like Southern bureaucracy, I can see it is still hard-wired Democrat in many ways. You guys might be able to turn it and get some peeps back like Ike Skelton and Claire McCaskill to carry water for Lockheed and the War party.
