View Full Version : Is this your idea of 'godly'?

This came either from Michelle Bachmann... or Andy Borowitz. I don't know which.

“In my lifetime I have never seen a more biblical president than I have seen in Donald Trump. He is highly biblical and I would say to your listeners that we will, in all likelihood, never see a more godly, biblical president again in our lifetime.”

— Former Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN), quoted by TPM (https://talkingpointsmemo.com/news/michele-bachmann-exalts-biblical-trump-we-will-never-seemore-godly-president).

Good Grief! If I were to pick a "Godly" president I would pick Jimmy Carter.

Bachmann is so delusional. None of our forum members most supportive of our president would make this claim.

I want to laugh, but since I try to be a Christian I find it to be very disturbing and entirely delusional.

“Godly”, a word which here means anti-Muslim, anti-abortion, anti-tax, anti-gun control, anti-immigration, anti-intellectual/elite/urban/fancy.

Old Beelzebub hisself could vie for “most godly” if he confessed to the Trump-tea-publican creed.

“Christians” like Ms Bachmann wouldn’t recognize Christ if he arrived on a neon flaming pie in the sky.

Well, the old testament God is kind of a pompous dick; so Bachman has a point.

. The evangelicals live in the Old Testament. You listen to them and it's nothing but wrath of God stuff. You'll never hear of God's love and Christ's call for inclusiveness.
If wrath is what you want, Trump is your man.
I agree with C. Ross. Bachman wouldn't recognize Christ.

She's referring to how many women he's known in the biblical sense.

There are better interpretations of the Christian Gospel:

We believe in things that we cannot see
Why shouldn't we? Why shouldn't we?
Hands that heal can set a chained man free
Why shouldn't we? Why shouldn't we?

And we believe in peace within every heart
Why shouldn't we? Why shouldn't we?
Burning brightly, brightly in the dark
Why shouldn't we? Why shouldn't we?

So come on darling, feel your spirits rise
Come on children, open up your eyes
God is all around, Buddha's us at the gate
Allah hears your prayers, it's not too late

And we believe in things that will give us hope
Why shouldn't we? Why shouldn't we?
Let your voice be heard, celebrate your voice
Why shouldn't we? Why shouldn't we?

So come on darling, feel your spirits rise
Come on children, open up your eyes
God is all around, Buddha's at the gate
Allah hears your prayers it's not too late

We believe in things that make us all the same
Why shouldn't we? Why shouldn't we?
Love belongs to all, in deed and aim
Why shouldn't we? Why shouldn't we?

And we believe in things that can't be done
Why shouldn't we? Why shouldn't we?
Lift up your heart, put down your gun
Why shouldn't we? Why shouldn't we?

We believe in things we're told that we can't change
Why shouldn't we?
We had heroes once and we will again
Why shouldn't we?

So come on darling
Come on children
God is all around, Buddha's at the gate
Allah hears our prayers, it's not too late

So come on darling, feel your spirits rise
Come on children, open up your eyes
God is all around, Buddha's at the gate
Allah hears your prayers, it's not too late

Why shouldn't we?

Chris has it exactly right; among Ms Bachmann's constituency (the more extreme evangelicals) 'godly' is code for anti- just about everything. Anti- every positive development since the Enlightenment, anyway.

And Mr Smith, that's a great song, worth posting. Y>

The Old Testament God reminds you of Jimmy Carter?
