Now I know what you guys are thinking, but I really do need a piece of tail. http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid44/p3765bdea31e67cb1a3f6d9031eb6f157/fce21984.jpg
In the process of fixing the aft deck on Pas de deux I turned her over to do some
Fiberglass work on the under side of the deck. When I turned her back
Over I noticed the tail on the carved dolphin that holds the flagpole broke.
I searched the shop for 2 days and went through each trashcan but no luck.
So I have no choice but to make a new piece.
http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid44/p030dddfbe039f9aaca73c4e80886adfe/fce21987.jpgI started out with a small scrap of mahogany and cut it close to shape on the band saw
Then worked it as close to the final shape with a small sanding drum on the drill press.
The next step was to epoxy it in place and do the final shaping. the color is
A little off but I think it will be ok with a little bleach and a month or two in the sun

Then all I have left to do is refinish the whole boat inside and out.
By then it should be a little warmer and I can get back to work on Floozie…….
….. Happy New Year to all ………… Phil

So bleach will darken, not lighten, mahogany?

Chad the pic is kind of misleading . After the finish was sanded off the new piece is a bit darker. I know I can't get it perfict but I tkink I can come close. .........Phil

okay now can anyone figure how to carve a dingo? Im thinking of having a dingo on the bow of my canoe {yeah yeah when I build it! sigh} any ideas where I can learn this carving bizo? somehow I just find these carvings seem to finish it a final touch if you will that personal feel... and the dolphin has always grabbed me as one of those sweet little touches to your boat mate.

happy new year back mate! :D

OT WARNING! OFF TOPIC

Zeb was in the fertilized egg business. He had several hundred young layers, called pullets, and eight or ten roosters, whose jobs were to fertilize the eggs. Zeb kept records, and any rooster or pullet that didn't perform well went into the pot, and was replaced. That took an awful lot of time, so Zeb got a set of tiny bells and
attached them to his roosters. Now he could sit on the porch and fill out an efficiency report simply by listening to the bells. Zeb's favorite rooster was old Brewster. A very fine specimen he was too, only his bell had not rung all morning! Zeb went to investigate. Several roosters were chasing pullets, bells a-ringing! BUT, Brewster
had his bell in his beak so it couldn't ring. He'd sneak up on a pullet, do his job and walk on to the next one. Zeb was so proud of Brewster that he entered him in the county fair. Brewster was an overnight sensation!!
The judges not only awarded him the No Bell Piece Prize; he was also given the Pulletsurprise.

Shane carving a dingo is easy all you need is a block of wood and some sharp tools. Then anything that dosen't look like a dingo just cut it off. smile.gif ..........Phil
