He's 14 and is developing a pretty bristly chin. I introduced him to Mr. Razor this morning.

Good Lord. How did he grow up so fast?

That's damn wonderful, probably something he'll always remember with warm feelings. My dad and I were never very close but I remember the day he stopped me as I was trying to cut my face all to hell and taught me how to shave. Come to think of it, I be het was just trying to keep me from dulling his razors! :D

I wasn't aware that one had to be taught how to shave....I thought it was one of those things that you just start doing one day....

"..one of those things that you just start doing one day..." And, one of those things you just stop doing one day.

They also don't know how to shave so as to prevent ingrowing whiskers. And they tend to not rinse the razor after shaving. Shaving used to be a real art, with the mug of lathering soap, a badger brush, a straight edge razor with it's case and a leather strop to hone it. It was a real, almost sacred, male ritual to be shaved at the barbers, hot towels, the slap, slap of the razor on the honeing strap, the flies that always buzzed about on hot summer day . . . Do any barbers still shave that way? Well, maybe without the flies. :D :D

There's something to be said for rituals. BTW, Lee Valley's chromium green crayon makes a great strop dressing ...
