MaryEllen's brother in law was head machinist at two different bottling plants. At one place they got a new line for expansion, all computer state of the art. Diagnostics of the electronics was even harder than some of the gremlins in Mercedes Benz and plastic just breaks. They ended up rebuilding and adding capacity to the mid-'60s line which meant building many parts that were originally provided by vendors no longer in existence. It was actually fun because before retirement, teaching the next generation by making all those parts ensured that the skills were passed along.

Machinists seem to see to the nearest mil.

Definitely not a " white shirt and tie " job - I love the early-tech stuff.

I find the evolution of the words "Machinist" and "Mechanic" interesting.

Does anyone else have this book on the shelf?
