I finally got Spark's sails out of the bag and spread out flat in the yard today. They are in surprisingly good shape. They are even clean. For a boat that last sailed in 1981, I was impressed. When I saw her telltales though, I damn near fell over laughing.

yes, that is an 8-track tape.

I will have to send them off to a loft this winter to get looked over and if deemed safe to use, have some reef points put in.

I keep an old VHS tape on the boat just for telltales in the shrouds. It works better than cassette tape.
There are two, just above the pinrail. One is jammed in the blue tape.

When you pull out the trysail and the storm jib and they both have telltales on them, you know you are aboard an Offshore Racer!

I hope the boat to which those telltales belong will visit my neck of the woods one of these days. I would love to clap eyes on her!

One excellent way of knowing how old your boat is comes in a letter telling you the empty shell is ready for the low loader. That letter is dated early 1975. Today I shall finish the end of season coating to her brightwork.

I have 45's for telltales on my sails.
Had 33's but they were too slow.

I tried an MP3 but I couldn't see it.

How old is the boat? same way you tell the age of a dog. cut it in half and count the rings

In 2011 I took my old sails to Schurr in Pensacola to have new ones made. As they were taking measurements one guy remarked: "I haven't seen that in 25 years!". Nonetheless they took accurate and complete notes. When I got the new sails they fit perfectly.

If I forget how old my boat is, I look at my birth certificate. We were both launched the same year. The boat is in much better shape however.

I know exactly how old all 27 boats Iíve owned are. And the other odd couple dozen I didnít keep. ;)

Shoot. Except one. Technically, though, the Sneakeasy is my wifeís boat. A boat which I got some wood for making the new deck for yesterday. I pointed at the logs, and the dudes set them aside to slice up.

See, for Christmas Iím launching the newest, and finally freeing the garop!

I have a bunch old svhs tape from when I was a video editor. Now I know what to do with it! Thanks. :)

Peace,
