MEMPHIS About 400 guns have been stolen from a United Parcel Service facility in Memphis, and authorities are concerned about the theft's potential effect on public safety in this city and elsewhere.

Two people driving a U-Haul truck stole the weapons from a UPS facility in Memphis on Sunday, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said Monday. The agency is asking for the public's help in the case: It offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.

Investigators are looking into exactly how many guns were taken, but the estimate of 400 stolen firearms makes it one of the largest single gun thefts the ATF has investigated, bureau spokesman Michael Knight said. ATF agents and the Memphis Police Department are reviewing manifests and bills to determine where the guns were shipped from and where they were going.

First question: who knew there were 400 guns in this particular warehouse.

Likely someone working there. All employees will be suspects.

Don't know yet, wasn't in the story. Watch Memphis classified ads and pawn shops to see what shows up.

Nah.

This wasn't a bunch of amateurs. Those guns are likely bound for Canada.

Mexico, American guns are the basis for the Mexican drug wars.

Okay now you need 400 good guys with guns to balance it out.

We are concerned that the firearms will end up on the streets not only potentially in the Memphis area, but also across the country," Knight said. "The criminal element knows no geographical boundary."sounds like an arguement for nationwide gun laws

American demand for illegal drugs is the basis for the Mexican drug wars. . .

Likely the importers decided not to pay for the delivery, and this way they don't have too.

I don't get it. You can go buy 400 guns in Walmart, and the police reckon this theft creates some sort of risk to public safety?

and American guns are used to fight them.

Indeed it looks like they were on their way to Canada:d

"MEMPHIS, Tenn. Approximately 364 of the guns stolen from an UPS facility in Memphis have been recovered in route to Chicago.According to a federal criminal complaint, the UPS facility received a shipment from the Ruger factory in North Carolina on September 28. The 16 pallets of firearms were scheduled to leave two days later for Dallas, Texas.
Before they could be shipped, two men entered the Brooks Road facility, loaded three pallets into a U-Haul van and sped away. Authorities said there were roughly 367 guns in those pallets. All of the weapons were either .22 caliber or .380 caliber firearms, authorities said."

They loaded three pallets and that was 364 (or 367?) weapons. So there's roughly 122 guns per pallet for a total of 1952 guns. The citizens of Dallas must be very worried about their safety. Just one more reason to stay away.

I think it is the illegality of said drugs.

Betcha it was not 400 revolvers or bird guns.

Unfortunately 400 additional guns on the streets of _____ (insert your favorite city; Memphis, New Orleans, Dallas, Chicago...) will not make a huge impact. There are so very many guns out there already.

From a UPS facility? UPS is a shipping company, how do they have 400 guns sitting in a warehouse? Who ships 400 guns at a time? Legally?

They only stole 367 on three pallets. There were 16 pallets and a total of about 1950 weapons.

Once stealing is outlawed, only outlaws will steal.
