1. His comment was off the charts in its falsehood and presented to a group who would ultimately know better.
2. This same group most likely has a highly enough developed sense of irony to appreciate that the speaker lacks the basic knowledge required to understand how stupid it was to make such a comment at that venue.
3. He is funny looking.
