I visited Dana Point years ago. All I really remember is that there were a whole lot of houses that were cliff top and just one good rain away from cliff bottom.

Does anybody have any idea how much longer that cracked mast should stay in use?

Thanks for the great thread. I spent a lot of time in Dana Point when I worked on Kelpie. We never had the tall ships come to town back then. All we had was our own, Pilgrim. Californian was home ported in DP, but she was almost never home. I was told that Kelpie fell into some sort of classification that "legally" made her a tall ship. I don't think she's tall enough though.

I hate the term "tall ship" Much as I love the poem, I hate what it did for the term. A ship is a ship. A schooner is a schooner. A ketch is a ketch and a hermaphrodite brig is a hermaphrodite brig. None are "tall ships" in my mind. Part of the dumbing down of terminology discussed in another thread about the demise of nautical language. Great images Joe. Must be fun to ogle none the less.
