This is a 1957 Richardson 34 that the owner wants to be rid of. It is pretty good condition, except that some asshat tossed a Molotov cocktail on the foredeck and charred the foredeck planking and coach house windscreen pretty badly. It needs a couple of windows replaced, some decking, repairs to the coach house roof and interior liner, new foredeck hatch, and a new anchor windlass. The hull is cedar on oak, monel fastened; transom, deckhouse and all joinery is solid mahogany, all still in very good shape. Engines are good, and have been stabilized for storage. It has been sitting on its cradle/trailer for a few years now, but located in a boat yard on open ground that stays damp year-round, so the planking has not dried out. The boat is located in Yarmouth, NS. If you are interested and want more info, contact me. I think that the owner is willing to let this go for a surprisingly short song.

Disclaimer: I have no financial involvement in the vessel - just posting for a friend. If I had the time & money, I would not be posting this.

I remember than LOTS of power boats reflected that style. I might enjoy her today, if her engine isn't too large. Of course it's most likely gasoline, a big negative these days.

Damn, from the days when stinkpots were at least pretty.. and same age as me - tho I'm not near so 'pretty'.

Damn good thing I can't afford to even go see her, never mind tow her back..

Photos are meaningless. This boat may be great, I dunno.

A friend just looked at a boat that looked fantastic in the ad (& was advertised as "all ready to go") & when he got there, the head hadn't been flushed in a year, mouse nests everywhere (& the accompanying stink), the "complete refastening" turned out to be about 100 screws on some planks that'd been replaced because of an altercation with a dock. the engine was coated top to bottom with oil, & last but not least, the forward ends of the planks had daylight between them & the stem, right down to the waterline.

I'd love a boat like that but it makes no sense on the lake I'm on now and no way do i have time for another project.

I have crawled all over this boat - cabins, lockers, bilges, engine space, etc. - and I assure you that except for the fire damage on the foredeck, it is in very good condition. Yes, it has gasoline engines, as most of the type, size, and era have.

Yeah, what would us dreamers be looking at if we decided to jump? I can get a slip on winnepesaukee pretty cheap. That boat would be perfect there.

Please note that I am not in the business of evaluating boat prices, so I don't pay attention to what boat sells for what price. But I'm as good at guessing as the next guy. Restored back to her pre-fire condition, Richardsons of her size and vintage seem to be on the market for between $30,000 an $45,000. Ones that need restoration (most of the few I saw needed lots and lots of restoration, which this one does not) seem to be in the $3,000 to $5,000 range. But - and this is a big but - those prices are from the USA mid-west, where Richardsons were built. Yarmouth NS is a long way from that 'hot' market. That being said, I suspect that this one can be had for a good conversation (crying towel?) and maybe a good bottle of spirits.

More accurately, I took a leave of absence from one company, interviewed at another. On the cruise around South Carolina I accepted the offer to start the new job in September. Then I turned in my two weeks notice to the first company. The Richardson ought to go a little bit faster than the 5 knots that I made heading south. It would be a trip to not have any regrets about.

And to further shock you, the current price for regular unleaded gasoline here is about USD$3.78 per US gallon.

He'd be buying the first tank or two in Canada, then the rest in the States. But the price at the marina is a tad higher than on the street anywhere I've been. I reckon the fuel consumption per mile goes up as the square of the speed. My sailboat would use about 30 gallons of diesel per week - 300 miles going at about 5 knots or 10 miles per gallon. So 18.5 knots would require about 13.7 times the fuel for the distance covered - 10 miles would require 13.7 gallons. Perhaps more since the energy content of gasoline is slightly less than diesel. Factoring that in would roughly get 15 gallons per 10 miles. My cruise was about 2000 miles from Annapolis, MD to Guntersville, AL. From NS add about another 7000 miles to get 2700 miles. The whole trip would require 4050 gallons. At $3.75 USD or about $15k worth of fuel. Yikes!
Having the boat trucked down might cost $5k - based on my quote for $2k to get my sailboat down from Annapolis to Guntersville and the fact that the two boats are similar in size. But it would not be nearly as fun an adventure.
