View Full Version : Drascombe Scaffie - refit

I just purchased a 1979 Drascombe Scaffie that was converted to a marconi "cat" rig and I'm toying with the idea of converting it back to the original lug rig. I am looking for the original sail plan and specifications for the mast and yard sizing as well as the sail measurements. Does anyone have these or know where I can get them. I also have to replace the "new" tiller for one that has a hump to clear the outboard. I would like to have the the original sizing / shape for this (If there was an original). I've seen some where the rudder was changed out for a wooden one that looks nice. Thanks!

Maybe this http://www.honnormarine.co.uk/Scaffie/scaffie.pdf will help with the tiller. You don't say where you are but but Honnor Marine may be able to help. http://www.honnormarine.co.uk/index.htm The index page will give an idea of the history behind the various 'makes' of John Wilkinson's designs.

Great boats! Yes, join the Drascombe Association Forum (http://www.drascombe-association.org.uk/forum.php)

The Scaffie was just reviewed in the latest issue of Small Craft Advisor (http://smallcraftadvisor.com/), there are some owner names there that you may be able to track down through SCA or facebook. You'll have to order a copy or wait for the digital copy to show up in a few months. And there is also a facebook Drascombe group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/drascombe/) with a wealth of knowledge.

Saildaboat, if you're still looking for lugsail info on the Scaffie - Honnor Marine sells the sail. I think the Scaffie and the Dabber use the same mainsail. I just bought a '79 Scaffie as well, and am starting to look for accessories and replacement parts. I'm starting to think '79 may have been a big production year for Scaffie's. Don't see a lot of info on them compared to other Drascombe boats, but '79 seems to be mentioned as much as all other years combined in my searches so far.
