Today's news that Winston has once again gotten himself into legal trouble, and will be suspended for the first 3 games of next season, must have Winston fans cringing.

No big surprise. Here's an early analysis from 2016 --

It really makes me wonder why the talent evaluators don't put more weight on 'character'... esp. in such a keyu position on the team.

It's been a year and a half since that was written.

We've had lots of Samoan players at UW, WSU, and the Seahawks. Their #1 rule seems to be "Do not embarass your family."
Mariota is half Samoan.

More chatter on the subject --

A little more than three years ago, the NFL community spent the offseason debating two highly hyped quarterback prospects that had the potential to turn around franchises in need of saving. Even today, more than three years after the Buccaneers (https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/teams/page/TB/tampa-bay-buccaneers)chose Jameis Winston (https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/players/playerpage/1998197/jameis-winston) with the first-overall pick and the Titans (https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/teams/page/TEN/tennessee-titans) took Marcus Mariota (https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/players/playerpage/1880862/marcus-mariota)with the second-overall pick, the debate continues: Winston or Mariota?

On Monday, former Titans director of college scouting Blake Beddingfield (https://247sports.com/nfl/tennessee-titans/Bolt/Tennessee-Titans-fire-Director-of-College-Scouting-Blake-Beddingfield-52576101/) claimed that for the Titans it never was much of a debate. During an interview with Paul Kuharsky on The Midday 180, Beddingfield said that Mariota was "an easy choice" over Winston at the time.

Former #Titans (https://twitter.com/hashtag/Titans?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) director of scouting Blake Beddingfield says team was all in on Mariota, but if it went the other way that Jameis Winston could have wound up in TN. Preference was Mariota, "an easy choice at that time."
