It has been while since my last visit to the forum. I enjoy answering questions on restoring hardware. I will help on re chroming bronze or re polishing s/s and what is involved in the processes. Look forward to some posts.

I have some chrome plated brass and bronze fittings that I would like to have dechromed. I have heard you can soak chrome fittings in muriatic acid, then wire wheel and then buff. Is this correct?

Mike The only thing muriatic (hydrochloric) acid will do is strip the very thin top layer of chrome. Next is the heavy layer of nickel. Muriatic will not touch it. have it done professionally. It takes ALOT more than wire brushing and buffing after all plating is stripped to achieve an even half way decent re chroming job. You have been mis-informed. After stripping to base metal (bronze) several, polishing and buffing steps are required to do a good job. In 30 years I have never used a wire wheel on a re chroming project. It tears and makes twice as much work when buffing. Hope this helped.

And, Mike, has Mark mentioned he does this professionally? Does this qualify as trolling for business?
