This came from a dead, standing beech on my neighbors property.

Fagus species are renowned for re-fusing.

Im thinking top lid for a cool-box.

edit. That other wood in the pic doesn't look like beech. Wrong bark. ??

The other tree is/ was a white oak that uprooted and is destined for firewood. Bruce heats with wood.

I don't think I'd be alone is saying your friend looks like a fellow who can really handle his wood. I hope you'll share with him that we said so <G>

Glue some sandpaper on it and make a long board out of it. Nothing like a little weight to help with the momentum when you hit a high spot.

Hollow it out and drink from it.

Wish all my firewood had handles like that...

I like the idea of turning it into the handle for a cool box.

I have a chunk of red gum leaning against the house which has two places on it where the limb has grown back in- I spent two minutes taking photos of it- then an hour and half trying to find the bloody cable that connects the camera to the computer so I can show you! Aaagghhh!!! Dear wife following me around saying "If you put things away when you used them... Chill Jay- enhance your calm... JayInOz

Very few beeches planted around here , they are very pretty in the autumn. I like the handle idea too , you could put it on an existing door or make an interesting cupboard .

Locally there is a fused Grand Fir tree maybe a 20 ft length that somehow regrew back into the main trunk and then has grown 25 ft above the fused part . Only conifer I've seen do that .

Why doesn't he lift it by the handle?

Paper weight or doorstop?

Fake wood! :d Balsa News! :d Photoshop-grown!

The idea of a cool-box top is a good 'un, but the door-basher-inner-thingie-doober is a hoot!
