We were having this argument back in 1972

"Reason and facts are sacrificed to opinion and myth. Demonstrable falsehoods are circulated and recycled as fact. Narrow minded opinion refuses to be subjected to thought and analysis. Too many now subject events to a prefabricated set of interpretations, usually provided by a biased media source. The myth is more comfortable than the often difficult search for truth."

    Discussion. It's a 'reasoned discussion'.....
There's a lot of things they didn't tell me when I signed on with this outfit....

This is so very close to what and old friend tried to learn me earlier this week.

Coincidentally, he too looks taller sitting down.

The distance between Archie Bunker's idea to arm all plane passengers with guns... and Donald Trump's idea of arming school teachers... is a VERY small gap, indeed.

The difference: in 1972, it was OBVIOUSLY a very STUPID idea... which is why it drew big laughs on 'All in the Family'.

        In 2018: not so much.

"skyjacking".... I bumped on it when I first watched the clip. When was the last time we heard that word? When was the last time a flight was hijacked?

This strikes me as a model-issue for gun control.
We, as a society, identified the possibility of aircraft in the wrong hands as an unacceptable risk.
We made broadsweeping regulatory/security changes with respect to who has access to aircraft. Those changes were inconvenient and annoying, certainly, but we've all adjusted and I think it's fair to say that the law-abiding citizen has just as much access to air travel now as they did in '72.
Knock wood.... it seems to have been successful.

Suggesting that you arm teachers is far from an adult response. As noted in other threads, it is a suggestion that stems from playing "good guys and bad guys" as a child, and is juvenile at best. No, an adult response would have been to research and acknowledge why mass shootings happen, and what can be done to prevent them.

Instead, we were given "arm teachers" and "I think I would have run in there without a gun..." Really, really bigly adult like. Lots of people are saying it.

My Dad was a high school teacher and gun owner/Army Vet Korea.
He would have been a good person to arm in his day.
Not too many more of my teachers would qualify as a good person to have that responsibility.

All in the Family was satire back then, sadly it's reality today.

How can anyone NOT mock the idea? You want your grandkids going to an armed camp (aka prison) every day? Yep - pillboxes at every corner of the concertina wire topped fence around the school. Sucks when a kid hits a ball out of the park - but they'll be trained to know that if they try to get it they'll be shot. Have to get McQueen in to dig a tunnel so you can skip school on a nice sunny afternoon. The list of great ideas goes on & on.
