Mitch McConnell Should Be Driven Out of Office for Being a Chump Who Let Russia Humiliate AmericaAn earlier Post piece (https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/obama-orders-review-of-russian-hacking-during-presidential-campaign/2016/12/09/31d6b300-be2a-11e6-94ac-3d324840106c_story.html?postshare=7111481335261119&utm_term=.c9ab6a714070) reported, in fact, that McConnell “made clear to the administration that he would consider any effort by the White House to challenge the Russians publicly an act of partisan politics.” In other words, McConnell not only refused to condemn a foreign spy operation, he threatened to retaliate against his country’s efforts to defend itself. (McConnell has argued that a letter he later co-signed with other congressional leaders constituted an appropriate reaction to Russian meddling, but the letter in question literally did not use the word “Russia.” (https://www.politico.com/story/2018/01/23/mitch-mcconnell-russia-obama-joe-biden-359531))

McConnell owes the country a fuller explanation on Russian meddling:

“One of my proudest moments was when I looked at Barack Obama in the eye and I said, ‘Mr. President, you will not fill this Supreme Court vacancy,’” he said to cheers at the annual [Kentucky] Fancy Farm Picnic.

He is a thoroughly miserable creature.

Right after the election of '08 McConnell established his "Party of No" as the Republican Party's major attack on American self-governance. The basic plan is to face the demographic changes we are experiencing by establishing a highly polarized right wing white minority rule as a bulwark against the emerging multiethnic reality.

It's a strategy that will fail in one of two ways. Either we will decend into one of the many totalitarian forms of failed democracy that litter human history, or we will be come the first multiethnic democracy in human history. If our democracy ultimately fails, McConnell might or might not live to become a victim of his own destructive machinations, but that craven twerp will never be the real victor.

If the US fails that way, I hope History lays it all at McConnell's feet.

How much multi-ethnicity counts to be the first?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ethnic_minority_politicians_in_the_United_ Kingdom

Currently around 8% of Members of both Houses are from an ethnic minority background. This compares with 13.6% of UK population. The share of non-white population is the most proportionally represented in the Civil Service (11.6%), whereas the NHS has the largest share of ethnic minority staff (18%). from http://researchbriefings.parliament.uk/ResearchBriefing/Summary/SN01156

Nick makes a very good point. The heritage of empire did lead to an increasingly open, multiethnic, and democratic society. As I understand it, the UK is 81.9% "white" and the US is 63.7% "white". Both our nations are looking at the "white" population being less than half the population in next gneration.

Nobody seems concerned here, just a few weeks before the election: https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=obama+says+trump+should+stop+whining+abou t+election&view=detail&mid=692B829973EDA2A56927692B829973EDA2A56927&FORM=VIRE

mdh, perhaps you missed the two obviious points that McConnell promiced to turn any revelation of Russian activity into a partisan horror show, and Trump was indeed whining that things were rigged against him and he planned to reject the election outcome.
