I understand that the guy that yelled was escorted off the course.

I would like anyone who shouts "get in the hole" AT ANY TIME to be escorted off the course.

But, "you the man!" remains okay?

Yelling anything at players at a golf tournament is pretty much like yelling "F***ing A!" at your daughter's high school graduation ceremony.

I know some parents who sure wanted to yell that!

Are there rules about a replay of the hole or anything like that?

Enthusiasm urges one to yell out their emotions. Restraint, respect, and public decorum prevents most adults from doing so.

I do not believe that there is any rule allowing a 'do-over' due to distraction from the gallery, unless a spectator physically touches the player or interferes with the ball. But I do not play enough to be a rules wonk.

Golfers should have to play while dealing with the same crowd noise and heckling that every college or pro level baseball player deals with...and all golf tournaments should be held in Philly—where the fans are respectful and supportive.

A civilized response to an uncivilized act in an otherwise very civilized game.

Why should every game be dumbed down to the lowest common denominator?

I would think that these guys would practice for just such an occurrence by having their training staff yell out at unexpected times. Get used to distracting noises. Learn to play under pressure.

That was a critical final day putt too. Missing it, he finished tied for twenty third.

And they all love Santa Clause. :) You know that even the former mayor of Philly admitted to booing Santa that day.

There is an aspect to the game of golf that many non-players do not appreciate. In virtually every other sport you play against your competition. Your performance depends directly on what they do. It's not that way in golf. In golf you play against yourself. Golf tournaments are really a perversion of the game, but still every player plays his own game and tries to play better than he did the day before. That's why shouting at a player is so very rude. It is the most significant disregard for the very nature of the game and it reduces golf to nothing more than a non-contact sport.

The Philly reference did give that away. :) I've lived more than half my life in Maryland and Delaware. Believe me, I know what the Philly fans are like. Gladiators in the Roman arena got more respect.

This made me laugh, you funny!.

I grew up a mets fan and even went to the polo grounds where old brooklynn dodger fans gave the bronx cheer.

I would never dream of doing this in a golf or tennis game...

I never heard the bronx cheer in yankee stadium by the way....

My son told me philly fans were even booing the 100 year old lady., thats low.

Good point but also consider any target sport...archery, shooting, darts ...running, jumping, throwing athletics, gymnastics. ...I am often surprised to see athletics competitions where say a long jumper is competing against the background roar of the crowd for a simultaneous event in the same stadium.

Anybody here watch the 2017 Masters. You're telling me that Justin Rose and Sergio Garcia were merely playing the course and not each other on Sunday afternoon???

You like watching grown men inflict permanent brain damage on one another?Point taken. I'd be fine with rule changes that watered down the contact. I used to be a big fan of boxing. Now I can't stand it or any of the other full contact combat sports because of what they do to one another. But I've never stopped watching football. There are some changes happening, but not quickly enough and not radical enough.

Whenever I watch golf on TV (I never miss a major BTW) I can't help but think how much my dad would have loved to watch these tournaments in HD on a large flat screen.
